Ireland 160 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usa-c759 96 - Ireland won by 64 runs
In the 30th match of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 Qualifier, Ireland pulverised United States of America by handing them an enormous defeat of 64 runs, at ICC Global Cricket Academy Ground No 2, Dubai.
Ireland opted to bat first after they won the toss, but USA knowing very well that Ireland had the batting firepower to humiliate any team on a given day, made early inroads as they grabbed their first wicket at a time when Ireland had posted only four runs on the board.
Ireland skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801, was the first causality of the day as he fell on four runs on a delivery bowled by Usman Shuja.
Opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200, then after crafting a commendable knock of 17 runs, perished leaving the team on a tally of 32.
Disaster struck when middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AR-Cusack-c1075, was dismissed without scoring a run, and with three wickets down for 32 runs, Ireland were heading towards a train wreck.
Nevertheless, star batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ed-Joyce-c1417 and Kevin O'Brien belted a stupendous comeback as they not only restricted the bowlers from grabbing wickets, but also kept the scoreboard ticking.
With 118 runs on the board, it was finally time for O’Brien to take a walk back to the dressing room after he was dismissed on 47 runs.
With 135 runs on the board, Joyce faltered after smashing a belligerent knock of 46 runs off 47 deliveries.
Later, Ireland finished off their innings with a decent total of 160 runs on the board.
From USA, pacer Elmore Hutchinson took three, while spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhimanyu-Rajp-c41749 bagged two Irish wickets.
Needing 161 runs to win, USA never posed a serious challenge and looked down and out, right from the beginning of their innings as they kept losing wickets without putting much of a fight.
Looking at the USA score card, it was a belligerent slaughter from Ireland which prevented most of the US batsmen from scoring in double figures.
Irish pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WB-Rankin-c2785, wrecked h**l on the batting side as he grabbed four crucial wickets in his four overs by conceding only nine runs, a performance that earned him the Man of the Match award.
From USA only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Kirby-Taylor-c91317 and Elmore Hutchinson scored in double figures with 23 and 29 runs to their names.
