  1. the fact is that many of the irish players are embarrassed by irelands call ( not amhrán na bhfiann) because it  is nothing compared to the likes of the french, welsh or scottish anthems.

many players openly admit that they do not sing it because they do not think that it is the appropiate anthem. amhrán na bhfiann is only sung at home matches alongside Irelands Call.

irelands call is the only anthem sung at away games.

  2. they will play the national anthem at croke park and also Ireland's call , the reason Ireland's call is played , is because the Irish team is both Eire and Northern Ireland

  3. The Irish anthem will be sung in Irish. Ireland's Call is sung because not all the Irish players come from the Republic. Some of the Irish players don't sing the Soldiers Song because, again. it's the anthem of a different country. All those from the Republic know the anthem in Irish, it's part and parcel of the education system.

  4. It will be sung in Irish, I am welsh and i Know my own anthem obviously but i also know the word's in Gaeilge to Amhrán na bhFiann(A soldiers song) What a lovely song it is to.

It's the same with all nations it's not that they don't know the anthem it's that they do not in general like singing i mean Rugby is what their there to do.

They might be shy would yo like singing in from of a crowd of 82 000 strong??

Just because they don't sing  it doesn't mean that they are unaware of their Anthems.

Cymro o Gymru a rwy'n gwybod y dwy anthem genedlaethol a dwi'n gallu ei canu'n hawdd, Ond chwarae Rygbi yw'r dawn ar y diwrnod ac nid Canu, Cymru i ennill y gamp lawn Gobeithio

    Cymru am Byth

  5. The Ireland Rugby Union covers the whole island of Ireland and has players from the Republic and from Northern Ireland.  A Soldiers Song is the National Anthem of the Irish Republic and players from the North don't normally join in.  When Ireland plays  in Dublin, they play both songs. When they play outside of the Republic, they only sing Ireland's Call.

  6. When Wales win the Grand Slam you can bet that I won't be feeling a bit jaded by the fact that one or two players didn't know the words to the anthem.

And from where do you get your figures? How do you know that half of them don't know the words? Maybe they just don't want to sing. The emotion of the occasion effects people in different ways.

  7. .. and it's usually sung in both languages

  8. The soldiers song is our anthem because its dedicated to the soldiers that fought for Irelands freedom in the early part of the 20th century.

We also have an unoffical anthem called a Nation Once Again
