Ireland v Zimbabwe – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 Warm-up Matches – Live Score and Match Update – Ireland win by 54 runs
3-wicket hauls from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 to claim a comprehensive 54-run victory over Zimbabwe during their ICC World Twenty20 Warm-up Match, played today on September 13 at the Moors Sports Club Ground in Colombo.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field first, while Ireland opened their innings with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200 (13).
Both batsmen got their team off to a steady start, posting a combined total of 34 runs on the board before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CB-Mpofu-c1219
(4-0-39-3), who stepped in to dismiss Porterfield in the very next over, caught out by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BRM-Taylor-c1200.
Ireland’s innings centred around an 83-run partnership for the 3rd wicket between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ed-Joyce-c1417 (29) and Niall O’Brien (who top-scored for his side with 62). Joyce fell prey to Mpofu in the 14th over, by which point the batsmen had managed
to get Ireland up to a total of 119.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Wilson-c1474, who followed him to the crease, registered a disappointing score of just 2 runs before Mpofu trapped him lbw in the 16th over. However, Kevin O’Brien stepped up to join his brother at the crease, contributing an unbeaten total of
30 off 14, in addition to partnering Niall O’Brien for a 46-run 5th-wicket stand.
Their efforts got the team up to 172 by the final over, after which Niall O’Brien was dismissed by Richard Muzhange (4-0-38-1). However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DT-Johnston-c1405 (7* off 2) joined Kevin O’Brien for some last over contributions, which got Ireland up to 181 by the end
of 20 overs.
Zimbabwe made valiant attempts to chase down the target, but Ireland’s bowling attack, led by Cusack (3-0-6-3) and Dockrell (4-0-28-3), proved too much and the Rhodesians collapsed at 127, with 8 wickets down, by the end of 20 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Utseya-c2145 (23), and Ray Price (17) remained the only other batsmen who managed to register double-digit scores. The high-point of the team’s innings was a 55-run stand between
Masakadza and Ervine - however, the partnership did not manage to save the team in the end.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 contributed a disappointing 3 off 9 before he was trapped lbw by Johnston, and a total of 4 batsmen were dismissed on duck. At 83 for 8 by the 14th over, the unbeaten 44-run partnership which ensued between Utseya and Price was
unable to do much for the team. Faltering under the force of the Irish assault, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 crumbled at 127 by the end of 20 overs – 54 runs short of the target.
