  1. As an American, I have to say that Ireland is much more fun.  The people are nicer.

  2. I hope you ask this question in the England section too as here you will get the Irish answers. It depends on you what you want. Rain, catholicism friendly people in Ireland certainly. Sunshine, multiculturalism, friendly people in England. Accents in Republic are Irish, in england its many different ones. Republic is much same all over. England is vastly different in each part. Whats best is what you feel is best for you. Both can be great.

  3. People in Ireland are much friendlier.  No comparison.

  4. I'm Irish, so oviously biased.  I did live in London for a while.

I think the major difference between the two nations is attitude.  We Irish are far more easygoing than the English.  I find a lot of English to be more aggressive, and stressed.  The countryside here is less built up, the air is cleaner.  Of course we have problems, such as the climate but for a short holiday you can't beat the West of Ireland.

Ireland is also quite an expensive place to live.

  5. Accents in Ireland are nicer than England (though i'm biased considering i have one!), more atmosphere in pubs in Ireland, get better food in Irish pubs...

Weather is pretty much the same though southern england is a lot warmer. People are friendly in both places but i think more approachable in Ireland. I think there is a friendlier vibe in Ireland (but it obviously depeds on where you go!!) Often smaller communities, bigger urban cities in England; London alone has a population of approx 7 million, this is almost double the size of Ireland.

Food is very similar as in both places you can get any type of food that you wish.

Health service better in England. Benefits better in Ireland.

It really depends on what you're looking for and whereabouts in England you want to go because Northern England is considered to be very different from Southern England. There are vast regional differences.

History quite different, Queen rules England and is still quite popular (dunno why!!)

Irish is spoken in certain places in Ireland. Also the vibe of the country is quite different. People tend to be more laidback.

The public transport and infrastructure in Ireland is abysmal. Lack of trains connecting the major cities, roads are of poor quality. Very little motorways. Road signs are bilingual.

Countryside in Ireland is more rugged, the stone thats used on buildings is different and in the West of Ireland stone walls are plentiful. Also there isn't one red phone box or post box to be seen anywhere.

  6. England is cleaner, less smelly and fewer pigs in the dining room.

  7. In Ireland people will talk to you, and welcome you into their homes. In England people are less likely to talk to you unless they know you. In Ireland if you go into a restaurant or a pub somebody will talk to you. From experience with overseas students who have stayed with us, they will tell you that if you stay in a home in England on an exchange visit, you will not be made to feel part of the Family.

Irish weather is much the same as England, it can be good or bad. Last Easter, it was dry, and hotter in Ireland, whereas Irish people who went to Spain for the sun, were washed out, with rain every day.

Prices in Ireland are not much dearer than England, Some items dearer, some are cheaper. Regarding food, you can get any type you like, and there are plenty of International restaurants everywhere.

  8. Food is generally the same or very similar.

Accents vary strongly in both countries, from region to region. Ireland also has places where the Irish language is spoken, this is completely different from English.

Ireland uses the Euro as currency, England still uses the pound sterling.

England has a better infrastructure, trains, roads, and buildings in the towns and cities of England tend to be richer and more ornate. Ireland doesn't really have major architecture as part of its culture, I can't think of any nice examples after the early Victorian period up until the late 1980s and early 1990s.

We're definitely not the same. Because England has a far denser population than Ireland, people relate to each other differently. In Ireland it's very common to greet people when out walking in rural areas, and a sense of local community is still very strong. I have the impression that this is no longer the case in England, but I could be wrong.

Outside of Dublin, there are no postcodes, these are not necessary. Where I live in the rural west, there are often no house numbers on the roads either.

  9. ireland and england are sooo not the same!!

never been2england but its a well known fact that us irish are more craic, friendly and nicer all round!!;)

england is supposed2b good enough craic alrite but defo tink u shud go2ireland if u hava choice.

irish culture is very different from englands and anywhere in the world most irish people are bursting with national pride (even though most of us cant even speak irish!!)

if ur up 4 a laugh and enjoy a few drinks den ireland is defo d place2go

  10. I lived in London for years and I did really enjoy it as so much to do and so much culture and never a dull moment.  The weather in London so much better than the west of Ireland as it gets so hot in London in summer which is so humid but the Autumn in London is so lovely and the parks amazing and so much open spaces in these massive parks.  It is a great place for a young person but you have to be careful as in any big city.  Ireland is alot more relaxed but find not so much to do if you don't drink as social life based around pubs.  The people in Ireland more narrow minded and god forbid if you are a single mum, g*y, L*****n or whatever as people be shocked and like everything to fit into the little box of the church as in marriage etc, in London can be a free spirit and no-one bothered what you are and not interested in what you drive or how much money you have but in Ireland people gone very materialistic and judgemental and not as friendly as used to be, by the way I am Irish but people have changed here and the narrow mindedness is hard to understand and the need for everyone to drive a big jeep(so much for the environment).  College Life in Galway is the best thought as the crack great and the education great and is safer and alot of students so easier to make friends.  But the weather in winter so bad with wind and rain.  Thats why everyone goes to the pub.  Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

  11. Irish- friendly, educated, don't think highly of ourselves

  14. Ireland will welcome you.The English are getting a bit annoyed at all the immigrants coming in to the country so you would be better coming somewhere you are welcome. You'll enjoy it.We know how to have a good time. Are you Spanish?

  15. There is a big difference between Ireland and England regards culture and the like, accents, and popluation. Irish people are friendly but i find that English people are too. Also Irish people tend to be more 'clannish' regards their family. Or so i have been told by English friends.

Food would more or less be the same i guess, though you can more or less get any type of food anywhere. Unless your living the back o' beyond !!

  16. They're very different.

Ireland's population is around 5 million, England has a population of about 60 million.

This creates a big difference in terms of urban spread and lifestyle, quality of life.

The Irish tend to be more relaxed and friendly.

English people are more militarist in their language and attitudes, judjing by their use of common phrases and language.

The music of both countries is different.

Food is similar in both countries, but there are foods unique to both.

The 2 countries have VASTLY different histories.

I'm Irish, but I have to say I think English beers are excellent, mainly due to the large number of micro-breweries there.

  17. Not much real ale in Ireland, believe it or not.

    Very friendly people.

  18. England - The Accents In England Are More Understandable Than Irish. More Motor Ways And Facilities. Has Great Football Staiduims. Food The Same But Some Are Unique To The Country. The People Like To Be Private And Get On With Things. England Uses Sterling [ Also Northern Ireland ] Different Coultures.

Ireland- Accents Range From Northern To Southeren Irish Gelic Is Spoken In Different Parts. Has Fab Scenery And Fresh Air. Nice Clean Country, Not Many Motorways. People Like To Be Very Friendly And Say Hello On The Streets. Ireland Uses Euro. Foods Like Irish Stew. Are Unique To The Country

  19. they are so different! I am obviously biased towards ireland because i am irish but we seem to be a much friendlier race then the english. also a smaller less populated country too with loads to do during the day and night . you would not be bored here thats for sure!

  20. The main difference is the majority religion.

  21. For 2 countries that are so close we have got very different histories and culture, having said that ive got ALOT of time for the Irish.

I worked over there for a while just before christmas and ive never met a friendlier race (the accent sounds sooooo s**y on the women aswell) which is suprising when you think what the English have done to Ireland and the Irish in the past is probably on a par with what the n***s did to the Jews so they have probably got more reason to hate us English than most but they dont.

  22. England = shite and wil soon be a muslim country.

Ireland = great (the republic of ireland that is) and is still a christian country

Its easy when you keep things simple

  23. It would depend where in England you were going. In southern England you would get lonely. Northern England is very friendly, as is Rep. of Ireland. You should go to R o Ireland, then you can visit the beautiful Northern Ireland.
