Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien eyeing to win 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals – Snooker News
Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien is the only local player to represent the country in the upcoming 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals, the last event of 2011-12 PTC Series. The Irishman is aiming to clinch the PTC title so that he can add one ranking
title in his account this season.
The game of snooker is quite popular in the Ireland and the Irish people are famous for their hospitality especially for the snooker players. Every potter loves to play in Ireland and the PTC Grand Finals has provided them with a chance to fulfil their dream.
The tournament is going to be thrilling as all big names of snooker are present in the line-up of the event.
O’Brien has been drawn against the PTC 1 and PTC 12 finalist, England’s Joe Perry in the first round. If O’Brien manages to defeat Perry, he will meet the former World Snooker Champion from Scotland, Graeme Dott in the quarter-finals. O’Brien is now sharpening
his cue stick to play against Perry because he does not have a strong record against the Englishman.
Being the only hope of his local snooker lovers, O’Brien is keen to keep his game on top so that he can win at least one ranking event. His performance so far in the current season is not so convincing and to remain in the Top 32, he needs an impressive
performance in the PTC Grand Finals.
Speaking to the local media, O’Brien said, “I believe I can still win another one. If you told me now that I won’t win one, I’d be heartbroken. I’m not sure I would continue playing. I feel as if I am threatening a deep run in a tournament and I wouldn’t
be that surprised if I had some big results around the corner.”
The 40-year-old added, “My wife Jean and daughter Isobel will come to watch me as well as our parents and a lot of friends, especially if I’m still here at the weekend.”
The player will compete in his first match against Perry on Wednesday, March 14 at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway. The match will commence in the evening session.
