Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien inspired by Steve Davis and Phil Taylor: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
Stage is set for the commencement of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) where all leading cueists will compete for clinching the PTC glory. Only one Irish potter, Fergal O’Brien, could make it to the final 24 to get a chance of playing the Grand
Finals. The Irishman claims that the legendary potter Steve Davis and the darts Champ Phil Taylor are his inspirations.
Steve Davis has earned a renowned place in the professional snooker circuits across the globe. The Nugget clinched six World Snooker Championship crowns in his snooker career which is the second biggest achievement in the history of the sport after Scotland’s
Stephen Hendry who won seven Championships. Phil Taylor, on the other hand, is also a remarkable name in the darts game and is recognised worldwide.
O’Brien has been performing convincingly in the current season but he was not able to win any major event but still he managed to maintain his consistent performance and hit the 19th spot in the PTC Order of Merit. However, O’Brien is aiming to improve his
rankings in the World Snooker Ranks after showing some catchy performance in the upcoming tournaments.
While speaking to the local reporter, O’Brien said, “I take inspiration from Steve Davis who is 54 and Phil Taylor in darts who is 51 but the best player by a mile. Physically I’m fitter now than I’ve ever been. I feel as if I am threatening a deep run in
a tournament and I wouldn’t be that surprised if I had some big results around the corner.”
The 40-year-old added, “This year I made it my business to finish in the top 24. That was great motivation for me and it worked.”
The Irishman has set up first round clash against the Englishman, Joe Perry at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland. He will play the former World Snooker Champion from Scotland, Graeme Dott if he manages to win over Perry.
Despite the fact that he has less chances to win over Perry, the Assassin is aiming to give his best in the clash so that he can come up to his home’s expectations in the tournament.
