Ireland’s Ken Doherty ecstatic for Crucible entry: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Top potters lined up in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship are all set to play at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The former World Snooker Champion, Ireland’s Ken Doherty is feeling quite excited after making his way back into the
Crucible. The Irishman will be looking to hit the winning spot in the Championship and relive the memories.
Doherty performed brilliantly in the qualifying session of the 2012 World Snooker Championship and booked his place in the televised stages of the event. Back in 1997, the Irishman clinched the World Championship and was runner up in 2003 World Snooker Championship.
He will be meeting the former World Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson in his first match.
Doherty had a convincing recent snooker season but was not able to win any major snooker event. In most of the major ranking events, he crashed out of the qualifiers but showed impressive form in the minor snooker contests such as the Players Tour Championship
(PTC) and the Premier League Snooker. Due to his consistent performance, he was able to claim his place in the Championship and now feels pretty confident to unsettle his opponents.
While speaking to the Press Association Sport, Doherty said, “I'd more or less resigned myself to losing. There was so much at stake. To come through like that with a great clearance was fantastic. I've missed it for two of the last three years, so to be
back is great. I'm over the moon. Playing is my priority. If I'm not there, I'd be watching at home on TV anyway.”
The former Champ added, “I love being around the game and if I'm not playing I still love being around. The most important thing is that as long as I'm enjoying it, and I'm still competitive, I'm going to keep playing, of course I am."
The first round clash between Doherty and Robertson will be a thrilling clash because both potters are in good shape and can produce fireworks at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The world as well as the potters is anxiously waiting for the Championship
to commence with full swing.
