Ireland’s Vincent Muldoon ousts Martin O’Donnell in the semifinal of 2011 European Snooker Championship
Irishman, Vincent Muldoon has stormed into the final of 2011 European Snooker Championship against Daniel Wells. He defeated the Englishman, Martin O’Donnell, in their semi-final encounter by the
scoreline of 6-4 at the Dedeman Hotel in Bulgaria’s capital city, Sofia on Thursday, June 16. The final match-up will be played at the same arena on Friday, June 17.
Muldoon came strong on the table after he was 1-2 down to O’Donnell and grabbing four consecutive frames, he moved within three frames up against his opponent at 5-2. O’Donnell tried to capitalise
in the next two frames and brought the scores to 5-4 but could not do more, as the Irishman won the 10th frame.
The young Muldoon took the first frame by 60-44 after he potted a superb clearance of 60 in reply to O’Donnell’s 44, to grab a early 1-0 lead in the match. O’Donnell responded brilliantly clinching
back-to-back frames at 31-68 and 55-71 firing decent knock of 32 in both.
The former Irish Champion, Muldoon sprang back in the next frames and took four consecutive frames after he was 1-2 down. The Irish potter made a huge impact on the table and fired some excellent
breaks of 66, 55, 50 and 30 in these frames to nudge the Englishman, O’Donnell, three frames down at 5-3.
The Middlesex cueman, O’Donnell was under immense stress when he was trailing 5-2 down but the 23-year-old held his nerves and struck back to take two straight frames again at 25-59 and 40-86 after
pocketing two decent breaks of 40 and 86.
O’Donnell brought the scoreboard at 5-4 and was two frames away from winning the final match spot and the main tour’s final place but he couldn’t make it as Muldoon fired another knock of 42 to clinch
the 10th frame with the scoreline of 61-31. As a result of this victory, Muldoon has qualified for the main tour of 2011-12 Snooker Season.
