Irfan Fadhilah, Weni Anggraini reserve a spot in quarter-final round of 2012 Korea Open
Indonesia’s prime Mixed Doubles team Irfan Fadhilah-Weni Anggraini stretched its winning streak in Korea Grand Prix Gold and secured a quarter-final berth after beating Seung Hoon Jang-Hyun Jung Ko on December 6, 2012.
This pre quarter-final tussle proved a real test of their mental and physical fitness as it lasted for three gruelling sets before ending with 21-16, 11-21 and 21-16 margin.
World Number 25 pair proved its worth by prevailing in opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the opposing duo could claim only the second match point.
Though, the Korean campaigners had a huge support of local badminton lovers but still they failed to shine in this crucial match.
First sign of trouble came for Seung Hoon and Hyun Jung when they lost couple of consecutive points in the opening game and failed to come out of this deficit until the final moments.
On the other hand, the Indonesian shuttlers capitalised their rivals’ blunders in first half of the set and piled up an indomitable total of 11.
Irfan and Weni showed commendable coordination in latter part of the game and finished this segment with a favourable result of 21-16.
However, the Korean players did not draw a blank as they managed to save the honour to some extent by winning very next game.
They raised their chances of success by clinching few vital points without any interruption. They did not lose this rhythm in next couple of rallies and confounded the higher ranked opposing team with a mountainous figure of 11.
After the mid-game break, Seung Hoon and Hyun Jung amazed everyone with the command over their craft. They maintained a notable difference of ten points and swept the table with 21-11 score.
Third set was expected to be a nerve-racking contest as both pairs had no margin of error.
They were standing equal with one win each so both teams made every effort to pocket this final match point.
Finally, this cliff-hanging tussle ended when Irfan-Weni bagged some decisive points in third quarter of the set and then placed a winning figure of 21-16.
Now their next challengers will be Ji Wook Kang and Hye In Choi in the quarter-final round.
