Irfan Pathan all set to play T20 cricket for Leicestershire Foxes in the current season
Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, is all set to play county cricket this season for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 Foxes as both the parties have agreed to the terms and conditions of the contract.
The county is just waiting for the work permit by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). If Pathan gets the permission from ECB, he will take part in the T20 competition for Foxes.
The left arm medium pacer just finished his stint with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils where he took part in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pathan seemed to be in good rhythm after a long time and that is the reason why he has been picked up by
Leicestershire.
Foxes’ coach Phil Whitticase is hopeful that the left arm pacer will join the county as soon as he gets the work permit and he thinks that Pathan will play a very important role for Leicestershire.
Whitticase said, "It's the length of time it takes to get the permit but we believe we can turn it around in two weeks".
Pathan emerged in international cricket in 2003-04 and rocked the cricket world with his ability to swing the new ball at good pace. However, he lost form after a couple of years and failed to build on his first impression on international cricket.
That is the reason why he has been out of the Indian team since the last couple of years in all formats of the game.
However, Pathan has shown signs of his return to form in the current edition of IPL and is looking to make a comeback in the Indian team.
Good performances in county cricket could strengthen his case for the national selection.
Although his bowling has suffered over the years, the lefty has improved his batting in the recent years and can be called as a proper all-rounder now.
Foxes will play their first T20 match against Northampton next week and their coach hopes that Pathan will join them before the opening fixture.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed that he will be here for the first T20 game [against Northants] on June 3rd", Whitticase added.
