http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 rules will aid run scoring – Cricket News Update
The discarded pace bowler of India, Irfan Pathan, reckons the implementation of new ICC rules, especially the rule concerning two new balls in the game, will help run scoring and chasing a 350-plus target would become a common phenomenon in the near future.
The 27-year-old seamer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Baroda-c769 backed the “two new balls” rule and said that it would make One-Day cricket more competitive and will attract crowds, which is good for the game.
"(With) The new rules, especially two new balls in the game, I think in near future chasing 350 runs will be a common phenomenon,” said Pathan while talking to the media reporters at the sidelines of a promotional event in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
“In T20, teams chase 200 runs because the ball remains hard. So chasing 350 runs will be achievable. It is good for the game and good for the crowd," he added further.
The International Cricket Council’s new rule makes it mandatory to open up an ODI innings with two new balls, one from each end and the rule is effective since October 1, 2011.
Earlier it was mandatory to change the ball after 34 overs, but now there won't be any ball change, as two new balls from both ends will be used for the innings.
Irfan Pathan, who is struggling for a spot in the national side these days, has so far played 29 Tests and 107 One Day Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, picking up 100 and 152 wickets in each format respectively. His last ODI for India was in February 2009, while
his last Test appearance had come in April 2008.
Besides being an attacking bowler, he is a hard-hitting batsman and has played some match-winning knocks for India. When he was not performing well as a bowler, his bat was doing quite good.
Explaining how the new rule would assist run scoring, Pathan said that the ball will remain hard for a long time and when the ball is hard it travels quickly, so it would be easy for the batsmen to push the ball through the ropes.
Replying to a query regarding his fitness, Pathan said that he is back to competitive cricket and is happy with his form and fitness.
