http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-Pathan-c1601 puts in a solid knock: Chennai Super Kings v Delhi Daredevils - 2nd Innings report
The Delhi Daredevils had a mountain to climb in the second innings of the Indian Premier League’s 56th match as they needed to chase down a daunting 177 run total after a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 63-run special knock.
With their semi-final qualification hopes hanging by the thinnest of threads, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613 stormed in to bowl the first over. Ojha seemed composed as he defended the first three deliveries before
an outside edge had the ball racing away to the boundary for four runs. The home support was on the bowling team’s side and every dot ball was met with a cheer.
Ojha though had them silenced in the next two overs as he smashed two fours in the second over and two sixes in the third to race to 25 runs. Yet, it was the home side that was cheering when the batsman sent the ball skyward and into the hands of Jakati
in Morkel’s over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-Alexander-Ingram-c51381 was the next man in but the bowlers were dominating as the required run rate began climbing and the pressure to get an increasing number of runs on the board proved too much for the Delhi batsmen.
It was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 who took the catch as Ingram became Ashwin’s first wicket of the match and the Chennai Super Kings’ second. The home fans were ecstatic as the dangerous Ingram made his way to the pavilion.
Replacing him was Irfan Pathan, though any plans he had of making a partnership with Warner were dashed when Bravo struck in the 10th over for 21 runs. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Venugopal-Rao-c2752 and
Pathan gave their side a fighting chance with a 43-run partnership.
It was not to be as Rao found himself bowled by Ashwin on 30 runs. Also, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 found themselves out on eight runs each. Irfan Pathan went on to a valiant, but in the end useless 44-run knock, entertaining the crowd with two sixes
before the end of the 20 overs signalled the end of the match.
The Daredevils finished just 19 runs shy of a win that would have kept their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive but in the end it was the home fans who were celebrating another dominant Chennai Super Kings victory.
