Right from the time the Pakistani trio of Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt were allegedly involved in the spot-fixing scandal of the Lord’s Test match against England, more skeletons started popping out of the cupboard. In a latest revelation,
Indian medium pace bowler, Irfan Pathan has said that was sent gifts by a stranger during one of the series he was a part of.
According to the PTI, Pathan did not reveal the opposition or the year, but the bowler did say that the expensive gifts were sent to his hotel-room and he had reported the matter to the manager.
Pathan said that he was accosted by the stranger who later sent three costly gifts to the bowler’s room. He also added that those were gifts that he could not afford on his own. Pathan then reported this to the manager of the team, who further alerted the International
Cricket Council’s Anti Security and Corruption Unit.
Speaking to an Indian news channel, Pathan said, "I thought it was wrong as I didn't know this person. I reported to the team manager who then alerted the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit Officer.” Pathan also added that this was the last time he saw the
stranger, and was proud to have immediately followed the ICC’s code of conduct.
Pathan has been out of the Indian team for more than one year. The last ODI that he played was in February 2009 against the Lankans, while having played his last Test match in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2008.
Pathan is also a part of the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 side in the Indian Premier League and has represented them in all the three editions of the tournament. Pathan was bought by the Punjab team for a whopping $925,000 per annum, making him one of the top paid cricketers
in the tournament.
