Irina Khromacheva blasts past Cristina Makarova in Girls' Singles – French Open 2011
Second seeded Russian Irina Khromacheva eased past American Christina Makarova with a breadstick to advance into the second round of the Girls Singles event at Roland Garros 2011, second of the four Grand Slam event held in Paris,
France. She easily triumphed over the American in less than an hour on Sunday.
Ranked 520th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Khromacheva outmuscled the American in fifty-three minutes to book a second round spot at Stade Roland Garros.
16-year-old Russian entered court ten in full confidence and despite losing an early serve, she broke the American’s serve three times to bag the set with an assuring 6-2 victory. Khromacheva registered an impressive 67 percent
win on her lower first serve share and converted three out of four breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to help win comfortably in just twenty-seven minutes.
She raised her level of game in the final set and broke Makarova’s serve in the very first game. Khromacheva produced a drastic first serve share of 31 percent as opposed to American’s 52 percent but earned an awesome 80 percent
win on it. She broke Makarova’s serve three times by rolling the balls expertly onto the lines and eventually pocket a breadstick in twenty-six minutes.
The Russian will next face Canadian qualifier Carol Zhao who trashed Belarusian Ilona Kremen in straight sets to reach this spot.
Another seeded player advanced into the second round with a straight set victory at court ten. Fourteenth seeded Ukrainian Maryna Zanevska downed Ecuadorian Domenica Gonzalez with a 6-4, 6-4 score line in eighty-eight minutes.
17-year-old Ukrainian played her best tennis to down Gonzales in a tough duel. She lost her serve three times but roared back by breaking the Ecuadorian’s serve four times to clinch with a 6-4 success in forty-four minutes. Although
Zanevska clobbered five double faults and produced a lower first serve share of 50 percent as compared to Gonzalez’s 61 percent, she earned a plausible 67 percent win on it.
World number 308, Zanevska kept her winning ways in the final set and sealed the set with a similar way. She registered a 6-4 victory in forty-four minutes again and clobbered almost same first serve share. The Ukrainian exchanged
three breaks again and converted another breakpoint opportunity to her advantage in the last game to seal the deal.
Zanevska will next face Romanian Cristina Dinu who out classed French wild card entrant, Jade Suvrijn in straight sets to reach this spot. She registered a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Dinu in ninety-three minutes at court sixteen.
