Irina Novikova shines in Women’s 200m breaststroke semi-finals: Day four – European LC Championships
Irina Novikova of Russia shined in the semi-finals of Women’s 200m breaststroke on day four of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Thursday, May 24.
The 17-year-old Novikova stunned the aquatic crowd with her blistering pace in the Women’s 200m breaststroke. She gained the top position of the event and spoiled the party of her challengers in the distant breaststroke event.
With her immaculate efforts, she remained prominently ahead of her challengers and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 26.39 seconds.
She was trailed by Joline Hoestman of Sweden, who remained 1.50 seconds apart and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 27.89 seconds for second position.
Similarly, Hoestman was chased by Sara Nordenstam of Norway, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 27.91 seconds for third position.
Fourth finest position of the discipline was secured by Nadja Higl of Serbia, who remained 0.37 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 28.28 seconds.
The 24-year-old Higl was followed by Sarah Poewe of Germany, who remained nearly two strokes apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 28.72 seconds for fifth position.
Afterwards, the spectators witnessed alarming pace of the Italian relay team in the Women’s 4*200m freestyle playoff.
The Italian squad showed no leniency to their challengers and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 7 minutes and 52.90 seconds.
They were followed by Hungarian squad, which remained 1.80 seconds apart and hit the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 7 minutes and 54.70 seconds.
Third spot of the relay event was secured by relay teal of Slovenia that remained nearly five seconds apart and produced a time of 7 minutes and 59.73 seconds.
The session came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category while the championship will end on May 27 after the completion of all swimming events.
