37-year-old Belarusian, Irina Polechtchouk, has recently declared her retirement from the sport of Volleyball. She was playing for the French women’s volleyball club RC Cannes in the middle-blocker’s position.
Polechtchouk is originally from Belarus and she moved to France in 1994. She started playing volleyball in 1985 and joined the Amkodor Minsk Volleyball club in Belarus. She was part of the junior team but did not face much difficulty in finding a place on
the roster for the Senior A Team of Belarus. She spent nine years playing under the flag of Belarus.
Later, she had to leave her home country and shift to France with her family. Her home address changed but her passion for the challenging sport of volleyball remained the same. The urge to showcase her volleyball skills tempted her to join the local French
Women’s Volleyball team, RC Villebon 91, in 1994. She played for Villebon for almost a decade and grabbed huge success. In 2004, she made a great move and joined Melun-La-Rochette women’s volleyball club. For the next two years, she played for the Rochette
team and contributed to the overall success of her team.
Considering her wonderful qualities, the internationally renowned club RC Cannes hired her as the middle-blocker. It was a watershed moment for Polechtchouk and she has had the spotlight on her ever since. She has put up great performance and proved her
skills while representing the French team at several European and International campaigns. After spending one successful year at RC Cannes, Irina was attracted to Le Cannet-Rochville. She played for Rochville team for one year but eventually returned to RC
Cannes in 2008. Since then Irina showed remarkable progress at the RC Cannes and was a star.
Last year, she travelled to Turkey with her team as they qualified for the ‘final four’ round of the 2010 CEV Champions League. The French team did well and gave a hard time to hosts FenerbahceAcibadem ISTANBUL. They couldn’t advance from the semi-finals
but it was a great achievement for them to reach the ‘final four’ stage. Irina was highlighted for her great effort during all the matches.
She has served volleyball for a solid 20 years, which is a milestone for her. She has been known as a very humble person on the French team. Irina has now decided to devote herself to her family after retirement.
