Iris Wang steps forward in qualifying round of Swiss Open 2012 – Badminton News
The American female shuttler Iris Wang stepped forward in the qualifying round of the Swiss Open by defeating Mexican rival Victoria Montero in her opening match on March 13, 2012.
Wang put a halt to Mexican shuttler Victoria Montero’s progress with a decisive 2-1 lead in the end.
Both ladies kept the scorers busy for 45 minutes to register the final score of 17-21, 21-10 and 21-9 on score board.
The Mexican lady Victoria Montero unleashed her prime skills in very opening set of the match and pushed the American challenger Iris Wang on the back foot with her powerful attack. The American defence could not last for much long against the Mexican invasion.
Victoria Montero did not allow the opponent contender to catch her on the scoreboard and grabbed the first match point by ticking final score 21-17 on the scoreboard.
The female shuttler Iris Wang stormed back in the very next set and turned Victoria’s plan of a straight-set win into dust by levelling the lead.
She controlled overall pace of the game and Victoria Montero had no answers to her speedy and powerful smashes. The American blew away her Mexican opponent with a gutsy performance and won the crucial second set with a significant 21-10 margin on the score
sheets.
Both female shuttlers were fighting for their survival. The losing contender had to bear an immediate exit from the tournament so a lot of fireworks were expected in the decider. However, Victoria Montero proved herself a sitting duck as her American challenger
hunt her down with great ease.
Iris Wang outclassed her in all departments of the game so the Mexican opponent kept trailing behind her rival on the scoreboard and race finally ended on the final score of 21-9 in the American’s favour.
This was a wrap as Women’s singles expert Iris Wang sealed the 2-1 victory and eased into the next round of qualification trials in the Swiss Open.
The American is now scheduled to meet with Judith Meulendijks of Netherlands in next encounter and a win will take her to the main draws of the event.
