Iris Wang stretches her impressive run to surge into quarter-final at Pan Am Junior Championships
USA’s in-form shuttler Iris Wang showed her impressive craft on court as she stormed into Girl’s Singles U19 quarter-final by beating Canada’s Joanna Che in round-of-16 showdown at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 on Wednesday, July 25, at Sherwood Park, Canada.
The passionate Iris, who is positioned at number three in Girl’s Singles U19 seeding in the championship, played on a different level as she played remarkable game to destroy local hopes by beating Joanna in a lopsided manner.
The higher ranked USA shuttler put up wonderful show of dominating badminton and took the first game easily. However, she had to put in a little effort in the second game and registered a superb victory over Joanna in straight games.
On the contrary, the un-seeded Joanna could not capitalise her impressive skills and also failed to take inspiration from the support of her home fans. She remained unable to put up strong resistance to Iris and lost the match rather easily without taking any set.
The third seeded Iris started her run in a calm way as she played with precision and gradually increased her speed to take advantage on score board.
The impressive USA player remained on track while dictating the pace of rallies and took a stunning lead of 11-5 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Iris continued showing her hard-to-learn craft without showing any respect to her local challenger and eventually grabbed the game with a one-sided 21-9 score on the board.
In the following set, Joanna played much better badminton as she did not let Iris to take a comfortable lead this time by playing at her best speed.
In the meanwhile, Iris tried to take a huge lead but could only manage 11-9 gap on score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Joanna played well and made the score levelled at 12-12. However, Iris did not lose her focus and played flawless badminton at the ending points and bagged the game with a superb 21-17 score on the board.
The higher ranked Iris easily won this pre-quarter-final battle against Joanna in straight sets with a striking difference of 21-9 and 21-17.
