Irish Boy chasing first win of 2012 in Eastwell Manor Handicap
Irish Boy has got a solid chance of winning the Eastwell Manor Handicap at Folkestone in England on Thursday, August 23, 2012. He will have to outperform six other runners in order to claim a cash prize of £2,386 from the class-5 event.
The bookmakers believe that Selfara will be a tough nut to crack today, thus they have given the best odds of victory to her. She will definitely enjoy the good to firm conditions at Folkestone and the winning momentum is also on her side, as she was triumphant in her most recent outing.
However, the young filly does not have a very good strike rate and there is a doubt over her consistency, which will discourage the punters from risking money on her. She will definitely face a tough time from Irish Boy, who will enter the event with a starting price of 4 to 1.
The four-year-old gelding has been in the sport since October 2010 and his performances have been pretty much consistent. He has participated in a total of 18 races, winning three of them whereas finished as a runner up on four times. Moreover, he has also secured the third place on a couple of occasions, which clearly shows that he has the ability to fight for top positions regularly.
The Paul Midgley’s trainee was unable to make a solid impression at the start of his career, as he struggled in the first few events. He did improve his performance to some extent, but failed to win any race during his debut season.
However, the start to the 2011 season was a very good one for the Irish runner. He won two out of the first three races that year and gained a lot of confidence because of that. He kept on displaying solid speed during that time period and managed to win one more event afterwards.
Despite enjoying a very good time last year, Irish boy has struggled to make a big impression in 2012. He has participated in just three races and was below par in the first two. He did find some form last time around though, as he finished as a runner up. This will give him immense confidence and he will be eying his first win of the season under Micky Fenton.
