My Grandfather was born in Ireland and has an Irish Citizenship..He moved to Canada and had my mother. She doesn't have an Irish Citizenship. I would like to get one and I am wondering if it is possible if I could get one under my Grandfather instead of my Mother or Father.

  1. Your mother has been an Irish citizen since birth.  After moving to Canada she acquired dual citizenships (Canadian & Irish).  Since you are entitled to Irish citizenship go to your local Irish Consulate General and get an application for the Foreign Births Register (FBR).

My wife's grandfather was born in Ireland and she completed her application in February of this year.  We were told at the consulate in Chicago that it can take up to a year before the Certificate of Entry (into the FBR) will be mailed to her.  Once you have this certificate you can apply for an Irish passport.

    Good luck!
