Irish Derby Final: Take the price on Tyrur Big Mike
Tyrur Big Mike is one step away from securing trainer Conor Fahy, the 22 year old son of profolic Irish greyhound owner PJ, with Ireland’s most prestigious prize at Shelbourne Park tonight, but will it be a simple task for the market fancy?
Big Mike has taken this year’s Derby by a storm and clearly dominates the markets as an odds on favourite to land tonight’s €120,000 final, which is set to commence at 9.30pm over the 550yard trip.
There were concerns about the draw, which see Big Mike in trap four, lined up next to kennel mate and brother’ Tyrur Mcguigan in trap three, which led to some pundits suggesting that they may just create enough problems for one another to make it a very-open final to what one would expect.
But, statistically speaking, since finishing second-best to 2009 English Derby winner Kinda Ready in the first round, Fahy's dog has not put a step wrong, reaching the final in the most scintillating style with four incredible front-running performances in which defeat has never looked a possibility.
Last week’s performance in the semi-finals also saw him nearly set a new record, and with all the skills Big Mike is equipped with, you would assume the competition to be over if the same performance can be delivered.
If he can get out, the race is near enough over-therefore I would take the price and enjoy the action tonight.
