Irish Girls Spirit to be the highest in the 17th August Is Ladies’ Evening Handicap
The three-year-old bay filly, Irish Girls Spirit, gets the nod for the Class 6 17th August Is Ladies’ Evening Handicap. It will be raced over five furlongs at Catterick on Tuesday, 7th August. The race has gathered fifteen three-year and older runners who will take their chances for the £2,045 prize money.
Irish Girls Spirit progressed gradually through the five career outings in her debut season. She missed clearing her maiden three times, once at Pontefract and twice at Doncaster.
Giving three failed shots to the maiden stakes got the filly contesting in the Betfred Still Treble Odds On Lucky 15’s Handicap on 1st July, 2012 at Windsor race course over five furlongs. The race was won by the favourite entry, Million Faces, who raced through the wire by the margin of a neck.
Desert Millennium’s daughter finished the closest to the winner. She tracked the two leaders initially. With 2 ½ furlongs down the track, jockey, Paul Quinn tugged the mount to make some progress thus with one furlong to go the pair ranked second in the field of nine.
Taking the third position behind the winner was, Ring For Baileys.
Finally making the most out of the failures, learning and experience got her the debut success of the career through the fifth outing.
The Irish bay filly out of mare, Shone Island, won the Norfolk Chamber Of Commerce Handicap on 5th July, 2012 at the Yarmouth race course over five furlongs.
Entered as the favourite, she raced from the centre, enjoyed the lead for just two furlongs and then got on to chasing the leaders after failing to sustain the lead. She then bounced back during the final furlong and won the race by the margin of just half a length.
Filling up the third slot behind the winner was, Autocracy.
The Paul Midgley trained has not raced at Catterick before, but has raced over the identical distance.
During the sixth outing of the career she will be paired up with jockey, Micky Fenton. The 7 to 4 entry of the race has drawn the eighth gate to break from.
