Irish International 2012: Jorrit De Ruiter and Samantha Barning grab Mixed Doubles title
Netherlands’ in-form shuttlers Jorrit De Ruiter and Samantha Barning showed their elevated craft on court and remained successful in grabbing Mixed Doubles title at the Irish International 2012 on Sunday, December 9, in Ireland.
In the final battle of the event, Jorrit and Samantha showed their aggression in the arena and outplayed their lower ranked compatriots Jacco Arends and Ilse Vaessen in a 36-minute contest.
The top seeded Jorrit and Samantha, who remained impressive in all of their matches in the tournament, continued showing up their incredible skills on court and managed to defeat their third seeded country-mates without losing any set.
On the other hand, the third seeded Jacco and Ilse failed to show their attacking skills in the final battle against their higher ranked team-mates. They played well but not enough to stop their opponents from winning the match in straight games.
Jorrit and Samantha played with excellent control in their shots and managed to take over the affairs from initial points of the first set.
The tempo of the rallies was quite fast in first set and the in-form Jorrit and Samantha impressed local crowd with their lofty skills.
The top seeded Dutch shuttlers progressed with a stunning speed but they failed to set up a huge lead as their lower ranked team-mates also played attacking badminton and the score remained close until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the battle progressed in the similar fashion as both sides did not lose their control over the pace of rallies until the score reached at 20-20.
At this crucial stage, Jorrit and Samantha stayed calm and composed on court and they did not let their challengers to take control of rallies. They managed to score ending points and took the set with a close margin of 22-20.
In the second game, the lower ranked Jacco and Ilse tried their best to play dominating badminton but they could not create pressure on their higher ranked opponents and remained struggling.
Meanwhile, Jorrit and Samantha displayed their incredible skills on court by picking the bird timely from all corners and maintained their upper hand in the arena until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the top seeded Jorrit and Samantha continued their elevated play in the arena and took the second set by a decent total of 21-17.
Jorrit and Samantha stamped their supremacy in the arena as they won the Mixed Doubles title after beating their challengers with a 22-20 and 21-17 score on the board.
