Irish Mickey Ward v Ricky Hatton,who would win this classic??

Question

another one of my great boxing idols,Micky Ward,and Ricky Hatton,if these 2 fought in Wards prime who do you think would win?Id have to go for Mickey Ward whom I admire still to this day because of how he overcome personal difficulties in life and rose to be a world class fighter and hero to many millions of working class guys all over the world,I think his strength and toughness would see of a brave but limited Ricky Hatton!

both have similar fighting style, both throw punches with great power to the body, but i think ward hits harder than hatton and take punches better and has a good chin, this would be a great competitive fight.. ward by TKO

Mickey Ward is about as Irish as Mexico City. Firstly, don't judge Hatton by his fights at welter, he's a 10st fighter and the best in the business. Better than Gatti, the most overrated fighter in history, ever was. Gatti lost 9 fights, and got absolutely slaughtered by Mayweather. And Hatton has not faught bums.

Wards record does not even come close to Hattons. He lost 13 fights, was too stiff and would have been too easy for Hatton to hit. It would have been short, explosive, and Hatton would have knocked him out in 4 rounds.

And i'll add one more point - Hatton is the English working class hero. Everywhere he goes, thousands will follow. Even if he fought Ward in New York City, the place would be bouncing with Hatton fans, just like it was in Vegas.

Wow- this fight could have actually taken place if Hatton wasn't so busy padding his record with bums all those years!...................

I have actually already commented in this forum that I thought Ward and Gatti would have destroyed Hatton if those fights would have taken place!.....................................

I believe that this would have been a nonstop action fight.  Neither man would have to look for the other, that's for certain.  I believe that Ward could punch a little harder, Hatton probably has a little better handspeed and Ward could probably take a punch better.  That being said, this fight would have the fans on their feet cheering on their man with Ward finally prevailing in round 11 of a great fight.

ricky hatton by early round KO. just because hatton lost one fight everyone is writing him off the list. ward lost to gatti, and gatti has beat nobody.

Hatton by KO.  Ward couldn't win a war with Hatton.  Hatton punches much harder than Gatti.  Would be a crowd pleasing fight though.

If we're referring to Hatton as in his prime RIGHT NOW, then I'd give Ward the win simply on experience.  But who's to say that Hatton doesn't have ten more GREAT fights left in him?  Maybe we haven't even seen the real Ricky Hatton yet.  

We've seen what Ward can do.  He puts butts in seats.  He represents the blue collar workers in factories, mills, and warehouses.  He put everything he had n the world into every second of every round.  I had the good fortune of interviewing Micky at the Hall of Fame about three years ago.  I asked him what his toughest fight was, and surprisingly, he didn't say Gatti.  He claims that his toughest fight was against Emmanuel Burton (Augustus).  Micky said that Burton is truly an "uncrowned champion" due to his tenacity and focus on victory.  And, that Burton hit him with some shots that made Micky think his teeth had been "blasted" out of his mouth.  

While I'm impressed with Hatton, and their styles would fit together like peanut butter and jelly. . . . . I haven't seen enough of Hatton having to really "dig deep" to pull out a victory.  He's either pounding on an overmatched opponent or getting KO'd by Floyd.  Don't get me wrong, he's a h**l of a fighter.  I just don't think we've seen his best yet. . . .and until we do, I can't really say how he'd do against a man whose heart is as big as all of New England.

Before the Mayweather fight,  I might have picked Hatton.  However, he not only lost to Floyd, he was dominated in a way most didnt expect.  Sure its a given that Mayweather would outbox him.  However, he also out-Fought him as well.  

Given the way Hatton caved in against Floyd, I cant see him going to war with Mickey Ward and winning.   Hatton would win most of the early rounds but I dont think he would seriously hurt Mickey or gain enough of his respect to slow him down.  

Floyd is a better boxer than both of them so it stands to reason that he should be able to hit Hatton easier than Ward could.  However,   Hatton is RIGHT THERE.  So Mickey wouldnt really have much of a harder time than Floyd did.   The difference is that Mickey would dish out the same, or more punishment than Floyd did.

Well behind on points,  I can see Mickey stopping Ricky.

I love Mickey Ward, but I think Hatton's superior hand speed and better than advertised boxing ability would carry him.

That said, you never knew how Ward's left hook to the liver would effect a fighter - Hatton though, would be aware of that and would be quick enough to move in and out with out having to suffer through too many.

Because of Ward's chin and body punching, it would be foolish for Ricky to just stand in and bang with him - he would have to bounce, move and shoot in and out.
