Irish Mission set to win the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie on 15th
July, 2012
After gaining recognition and, finishing as a runner-up in the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, Irish Mission is all set to compete in the $500,000, Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie on 15th July, 2012.
With a 5-2 chance of winning, the filly is the centre of attention and chances are that she will be able to excel in this race.
The assumption that, the charge of Mark R. Frostad will perform well is not groundless considering she has really blossomed in her recent starts with two victories and two finishes as a runner-up.
Running over the distance of 1 3/16 miles, the daughter of Giant's Causeway, out of mare Misty Mission, will have to bring the same determination to the track which she demonstrated in the Woodbine Oaks at Woodbine on 3rd June,
2012, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles, which she successfully completed in 1 minute and 50.50 seconds.
With Alex Solis on her back, she finished before Northern Passion, while the third place was secured by Awesome Fire.
Owned by Robert S. Evans, the three-year-old is realising her full potential and, showing progress with every race. Regarding her form and ability, the trainer commented:
“We’ve always liked her and it was just a question of her developing, understanding the game, and growing into her body." He further added: “She’s a big horse, but she’s really put it all together. Her effort in the Plate was fantastic. She ran a big
race.”
In this race, she will take on eight other runners with her trusted rider, Alex Solis with weights of 121 pounds.
One of the things that might hinder, Irish Mission, on the track is the dirt surface, as previously she has raced on turf and synthetic surfaces. The trainer is slightly concerned but she seemed to do well in the work-outs.
Addressing this issue, Mark R. Frostad said:
"She’s been on the Woodbine training track to work and has no issues with it. We’ll just hope for another strong effort on Sunday.”
