Irish Mot?

An acquaintance told me that in Southern Ireland they are fully implementing EU safety rules. One of which is that ALL tyres have to be the SAME brand. I asked whether he meant same TYPE, but no. Same brand. This cannot be correct, surely?

  1. No not at all

  2. This is not true - the tyres have to be the same type, but not the same brand - I run one of my cars with Pirrelli's on the front and Michellins on the rear and haven't had a problem with the NCT. NCT (national car test) is the Irish equivelent of the MOT.

  3. as far as i know the tyres must be of the same type and not brand. i live in the north but a friend in the south clarified it for me.

  4. If that was true, then when you got a puncture and had to change one, you would have to look around for a local stockist or replace all 4?

  5. Possibly a  mix up between mixing cross ply and radials on the same axle ?
