Irish Open 2012: Bourdy and Singh tied at the top
The first day ends at the Irish Open 2012 and the spectators are getting their money’s worth. As predicted, the weather conditions were not favorable for the players. Heavy rain and strong winds engulfed the Irish Open venue.
Despite the unfriendly weather, Jeev Milkha Singh and Gregory Bourdy gave an outstanding performance. Both the players finished the course on top of the table.
Bourdy and Singh finished tied at the first position. Both the players had the score of seven-under par.
The Indian, Jeev Milkha Singh had a splendid round, as he carded eight birdies for the day. His perfect start had a minor speed bump on the way, as he scored a bogey on the 14th hole. The rest of his game consisted of pars.
The world 187th had no eagles or double bogeys for the day. After the end of day one, in an interview, Singh said, "The atmosphere and the feel to the golf course is fantastic".
"When you have so many people cheering and watching you I think you feel great," he continued.
The French, Gregory Bourdy had a fantastic finish as well. He was able to card seven birdies. Nonetheless, the world 175th was on the top as his game included no bogeys or double bogeys.
Unfortunately for Bourdy, he was not able to manage any eagles for the day. He ended the day with a score of 65. Indeed a great start for the 30-year-old.
The two players on the lead were just above a group of six people. The group consisted of Mark Foster, Matthew Zions, Andrew Marshall, Oscar Floren, Mikko Ilonen and Edouard Dubois.
All the players had a fairly good start, as they were able to end the day at six-under par. Out of the lot, no one was able to card an eagle or better, an ace.
The stars people very most excited to see were Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell. These players were the reason the Irish Open was taking place in Northern Ireland and unsurprisingly had the biggest gallery.
None of them had a great start. The best out of them was Rory McIlroy, who had a two-under par and finish tied at 53.
