Irish Open 2012: Paul Lawrie and Steve Webster tied at 33
The first day of the Irish Open, at the Royal Portrush Golf course, was everything what the fans had expected and even more. Despite the rain and the wind, the spectators were pouring in the course for the Open.
Steve Webster and Paul Lawrie were tied at the 33rd position on the table. As the day came to an end, both the players had three-under par.
Webster had one of the best starts in the tournament. He carded an eagle just in the second hole. After that, he was able to manage 3 birdies.
Unfortunately for him, Webster had two bogeys, one on the 6th hole and the other on the 12th hole. There were no double bogeys for the 37-year-old.
The Englishman completed the 7143 meters in 69 shots. He could have done better, if it had not been for his bogeys.
Contrary to Steve Webster’s start, Paul Lawrie had a bad start. He carded a bogey on the second hole. It was a par-5 that Paul finished in 6. That was the only bogey of his game.
The Scottish Professional golfer gradually improved as the game carried on. He had 2 birdies, one on the 6th and the other on the 17th hole.
Lawrie was also able to manage an eagle on the 9th. It was a par-5 which he was able to finish in just 3 shots. Lawrie had no double bogeys. The rest were just pars.
Steve Webster and Paul Lawrie are sharing the 33rd position with 18 others. This list of the players on the 33rd spot includes England’s David Lynn, Scotland’s Richie Ramsay and Germany’s Marcel Siem.
As day one ended, Gregory Bourdy and Jeev Milkha Singh were at the top of the table, with seven-under par.
The third position was shared by six players and they are: Mark Foster, Matthew Zions, Andrew Marshall, Oscar Floren, Mikko Ilonen and Edouard Dubois. All of them were six-under par.
This is not the final result of the Irish Open, three days of play are still left. The tables can easily be turned. The question is: “Who will be on the top at the end?”
There is no answer to that as yet, only time can tell.
