Irish Open - Simon Dyson, Padraig Harrington at 5-under par
The Irish Open has finally returned to Northern Ireland after almost 60 years. Royal Portrush golf course is the venue for the event. Day 1 at the Irish Open had been, without a doubt, very eventful.
All the stars in the golfing world have gathered for this auspicious event. There was so much hype created about the event that tickets had been sold out one week before the event.
As the day 1 started, fans started gathering to watch the stars of the game. Simon Dyson and Padraig Harrington are two players who are considered the favourites for this event and have a good chance to win the trophy.
Simon Dyson, number 48 in the world golf ranking had a good first day. The Englishman started off the day with an eagle on the second hole.
After that, Dyson had four birdies. Unfortunately for him, he carded a bogey on the 10th hole. Consequently, he ended the day at five-under par, as the rest were pars.
The 34-year-old had no double bogeys in the match. He covered the course of 7143 yards with 67 shots.
Like Simon Dyson, Padraig Harrington from Republic of Ireland also covered the links course of 7143 yards with 67 shots.
Harrington started off with two birdies on the second and the third hole. Then he carded a bogey right after the two birdies, on the 4th hole. After a couple of pars, he again managed to sink in two birdies.
Harrington’s score after the front nine was three-under par. On the back nine, he had two birdies, one on the 10th and the other on the 17th hole. As a result, Harrington ended his day with five-under par.
Like Dyson, Harrington did not have any double bogeys as well.
Other players having five-under par for the day were Nicolas Colsaerts, Keith Horne, Anthony Wall, Michael Jonzon, Peter Whiteford and many others.
Both the players, Dyson and Harrington had a good first day. For any position at the Open, they will have to show consistency throughout the four-day event.
