Irish Open lures in Emirates as the official Airline of the event on European Tour
One of the most anxiously awaited events on the European Tour this year, the Irish Open got another Booster shot when the Global Airliner Emirates decided to be the official airline of the event Yesterday, May 21.
The coveted event which is returning to the Royal Portrush Golf Club for the first time after a lapse of almost six decades is one of the most anticipated events on the tour calendar.
With the burgeoning success of the Irishmen in recent times, where the raging Rory McIlroy went over to win the US Open last year and ultimately soared to the coveted place of World number one on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and Darren Clarke
who won the Open Champion last year and Graeme McDowell who started it all when he landed the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2010, it was all but obvious that Irish Open is likely to lure in big commercial giants for the sponsorship.
Salem Obaidalla, Emirates’ Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Europe & Russian Federation, spoke on the occasion, lauding the recent achievements of the Irishmen in the sport.
He said, “We have entered into another major sponsorship, supporting sport in Ireland and connecting with golf enthusiasts around the world. Irish golfers have never had a higher profile, with no fewer than nine current tournament winners active on the European
Tour”.
James Finnigan of The European Tour and the Commercial Director of the Irish Open also spoke on the occasion eulogizing the services provided by the top-ranked airliner in the world.
He said, “Emirates is a world-class partner that brings added global exposure and prestige to the Irish Open. This event has massive appeal, attracting audiences from all over the world”.
Apart from sponsoring the Irish Open, Emirates has charted out a comprehensive plan to sponsor another 14 golf events all over the world, with no fewer than seven of them on the European Tour.
Irish Open which lost its sponsor a few years back, owning to the bleak financial turmoil all over the world, has lured in hefty sponsorship deals ahead of its return to its homeland.
