Irish Sean Monaghan to defend undefeated streak against American Romaro Johnson – Boxing News
Sean Monaghan, the rising Irish middleweight brawler, will enter the ring to defend his undefeated streak against slightly more experienced American pugilist Romaro Johnson, in a 10-round bout which will be held on June 14, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment. This will be the first time when Sean will headline a fight card. The ring for the event will be set up at Roseland Ballroom situated in New York, United
States.
The night will be co-headlined by the non-title welterweight 10-round bout between Thomas Dulorme and Alberto Herrera. Sean recently shared his thoughts about the upcoming engagement and put forth his excitement in defending win streak in a headliner.
Monaghan, 30, has been in a total 13 bouts and emerged victorious in all. The Irish pounder has nailed eight of his opponents by knockout and has never lost even a single bout.
The orthodox light heavyweight also boasts a successful amateur career in which he has grabbed many laurels and accolades. The bout is a bit of a challenge for Sean as this will be the first time when he will enter a 10-round clash.
The odds to some extent are in favour of Sean as he is entering the ring with a flawless resume. His Thursday night opponent though is bit more experienced yet possesses a pretty tarnished resume and is above all going through an extremely tough phase of
his career.
Romaro, 37, has been in a total 18 bouts and was able to emerge victorious in just 11. In addition, the Ohio proud has nailed just six men by knockout. The aspect that has already pinpointed Johnson as the loser is the fact that he is on a continuous four-bout
lose streak.
During the press conference, Sean did not show any signs of intimidation and stated, “A lot of people always comment on my amateur career, and it is true, I did have a short amateur career, but as you can see I have continued to get better and continued
to improve and learn new things each and every training camp. I have been sparring with a number of top guys and I have been giving them absolute h**l. This is my first main event and I am really looking to impress come fight night and put on a great performance.”
The odds are definitely in favour of Sean who will use this bout as an opportunity to enter the list of top 100 pugilists in the division. As far as Romaro, also known as ‘The Saint’, is concerned he needs to make a comeback on the win track and this might
be a good opportunity to do so.
