Irish Stallion Farms EBF Brown Stakes 2011- Emulous wins under P J Smullen, Marathon Stakes next
The daughter of Dansili Emulous, after a hiccup in the Group 3 Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes, where she finished 6th, redeemed herself at the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund (EBF) Brown Stakes and won her fourth race from five starts.
The four year old bay filly landed her fifth career win in an easy manner by defeating the J S Bolger trained, Claiomh Solais, by a length, among nine other mares and fillies.
Emulous has been unsuccessful only once all season, finishing sixth and losing the race by 7 ¼ length behind Lolly for Dolly in the Gladness Stakes.
The D K Weld trained filly responded in a champion like fashion and bounced back from the defeat to win the Group 3 Tri Equestrian Stakes for mares and fillies. She outdid the victor of the previous race, Lolly for Dolly, defeating her by a length and three quarters to claim the race.
Defeating the Royal Ascot winner of Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes, was a big achievement for Emulous and the re-gained confidence was visible in her last outing,
Managing to land a couple of Group 3 races, the filly seems to be heading in the right direction and it is safe to say that there are more good things to come from the consistent filly.
The Irish Stallion Stakes offered tough competition and to win a strong Group 3 shows that the filly has got some true potential. According to trainer, D K Weld, the four year old bay filly will get some rest after the race. The aim will be to target Group 1 races and that is exactly what her connections are going to do.
Ridden by P J Smullen, Emulous broke well from the gates and looked prominent in the 10 horse field. She jumped forward to place herself in the fourth position in the early part of the race.
Wandering around in fourth place and never giving a chance to fillies behind her, jockey P J Smullen, set his gaze at the finishing line, got her filly on the outside and the pair surged past their rivals to an easy cross to the finish.
Emulous, who was sent off as 9-to-4 favourite, easily cleared her rivals to a length victory over Claiomh Solais, who was sent off at 8-to-1 and third place was filled by Rose Bonheur.
Next up for Emulous is the Group 1 Marathon Stakes, a competitive race on its own, which draws a solid lot. In order to perform well, the filly would need an organized schedule for both training and proper work out sessions to be in top condition before the race.
