  1. Woah,racist fest or what?

    Laurens answer covers it best.

  2. there are a few of them near me. one guy was trying to sell me a video camera but would not open the sealed box. i decided to give it a miss and found out later that it is a common trick and the box is full of dead weight. enough said.

  3. Scum, rob from the rich and rob from the poor

Attack, intimidate and yet claim they are the victims!

Draw the dole and still can drive around in BMWs and mercs, CAB would have a field day, I don't know why they don't.

-An absolutely negative feel from someone who refuses to be pc and has had to live around these animals

    Let’s count the thumbs down...

  4. Irish travellers are all tared with the same brush that they are bad, dirty and thieves.

This is really not the case, a lot of them now live in local authority housing, some still live i halting sites.

they speak there own language with two forms of dialectic Gamin and Cant.

many of them have a love for horses and greyhounds or lurchers, most halting sites will have some pie bald horses around them and carts.

if you go to a car boot sale you ll have fun haggling with them for a bargain.

they are a very family oriented culture and have there own customs, years ago there marriages were arranged i don't know if this is still the case.

rumour has it that if a traveller dies that they wake them in their caravan and then set fire to it (again this might not be true)

  5. PIKIES

  6. above the law, they give gypsys a bad name, police are scared of them, when they go down the pub at night [they always do] throw bread on top of there caravans, the birds will wake them up at the crack of dawn jumping up and down on the caravan roofs, this keeps them subdued throughout the day as they are over tired, its worth investing in a couple of cheap loaves

  7. Okay well i am truly disgust at some of the comments i have just read.

I am from Ireland, I live in Dublin.

Travellers can be broken up into many forms.

For instance, the settled traveller will reside in a house and continue to live there, usually a counsel house, whereas a traveller will live in a caravan.

The traveller moves around to various halting sites, generally because the Gardaí( Irish police) make them do so. They are very traditional with traditional ways, very loyal and family orientated.

They are not poor. A traveller wedding especially is very extravagant. They just chose to live life the way they do. Some can be irritating but so can any person despite their back round. A good Irish film to watch if you can get your hands on it is 'Crushproof'. This will give those who are not from my country an inside look to the traveller community, though it does portray them as being violent which is not always the case. I hope i have been helpful. And i might also add that some travellers are the nicest, down-to-earth people you will ever meet. 'tinker', 'knacker' and 'pikey' are insulting words for travellers,

  8. travellers emerged during famine times when people were forced to travel about for food.they speak a form of irish called cant, have huge families and marry young.

some travellers are rough.a small town in my county has to shut down everytime theres a traveller funeral because the local traveller families have been known to bring out machetes and fight in the street!a settled traveller was shot dead in the main street of my town, because he didnt want to become involved in drug dealing.

however, most travellers are fine.my dad is a crystal cutter and they often buy several thousand worth of crystal for the weddings.one traveller woman admited that she couldnt write at all! which is scary!

  9. Avoid at all costs

  10. I don't know which idiots are sticking up for them, they are scum

  11. yeah a lot of these answers are discriminating !

You can get thse type of people in any community , they dont have to be travellers ...everywhere you go there can be "scum" not matter what type of housing they live in ! Lauren monique describes them very accurately , not all travellers are violent, they are very loyal people and always stick by one another , and not all of them are poor !

The travelling community isnt as predominant as they used to be and they are not at all like the Romanies! Any traveller i have met have been very friendly and courteous!

    Good luck

  12. Pretty much Irish versions of gypsies

  13. In the States they are more like Con-Artists. A few year back when I was living in GA a group of them came up from FL & did some real nasty stuff. From what I heard after that they are a group of people  clannish, very insular, arranged marriages, family businesses, quite any one outside & even some in the families are prey.

Similar I think to the Romney.

A "Tinker" was usually a Peddler(Salesman) that could also mend things. I'm not sure the term applies anymore.

  14. I used to have a sympathy for them...

Until I experienced them first hand.

They moved into the industrial estate where I worked, stole property and stock from the warehouses, stole from other local businesses, forced vehicles nozzle caps open and stole fuel. And they s**t everywhere. Absolutely disgusting. How can anyone stick up for them, they are absolute feral.

  15. Heres a good site.

    http://www.paveepoint.ie/

It lacks the racism and ignorance of most of your answers so far.

  16. Haven't met up with any in a few years.

  17. Lots of 4 wheel drives. Never heard of paying taxes.

  18. Well, their way of life is so completely different to the our lives. They spend their whole lives on the road, moving from county to county, spending days, sometimes months in one location before moving onto another. Its hard to give accurate information on them when observing them from afar but I have to agree with most of the other answerer's. They are known for thieving, intimidating locals, causing chaos and unfortunately destroying everyplace they have been with rubbish, human faeces...need I go on? They do also get grants from our governments, and have sued various public houses for "discriminating" against them, like ordering them out when they arrive in massive groups. Like I said, they are known for causing trouble. They also have massive families, up to 20 children maybe more per mother. Plenty of travellers are known to marry into each other- cousins etc. Power and money is a big thing- they take pride in showing off how much wealth they have to other families at gatherings, weddings etc. Racing horses against each other is a huge event for them (often on both sides of a main road, accompanied by vans, onlookers and Gardai) Some have tired of the lifestyle and have settled down. But it is now almost a taboo subject to say what you think of a traveller. Like most cultures, there are the good, but also the bad! And the bad is highlighted more because it impacts on our society the most in a negative way.

  19. They're not bad people.Watch ''Into The West''.

  20. The closest equivalent you're probably heard of is "gypsies".  They are often looked down upon in Ireland, tending to be itinerant or living in trailers, but I think they get a bum rap!

  21. stay away from them mate, they are vultures.move into public and private land, wreck it,then demand money to move on.absolute scum.tax dodging gits that hide behind their "traditions".can't trust them as far as you can throw them.as bad as the roma
