Irish Visa for British and Vietnamese?

Good Evening Everyone.

I am British and my wife is Vietnamese. She currently has a 2 year settlement visa for th UK. Does anyone know if she will be required a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland. I know normally she would if she was not married to myself.

The reason why I ask is because a lot of EU countries allow the spouse of a EU national to travel as long as they have the UK visa in the passport with a certified copy of the wedding certificate.

Anyone got any info about this or advice they can offer, it would be appreictaed. I wanted to travel, but did not want to book something until we know for sure.

Thanks for your help !!

  1. As you have a british passport, under EU regulations you and your spouse are free to move around europe, if you are going to ireland on a holiday your wife will not have a problem.

likewise if you move there, the only difference will be your wife will be required to register herself at the local police (garda) station upon arrival just to confirm where and how long you will be staying.

    go to http://www.citizensinformation.ie/catego...

I am also british and live in america, my wife and children are moving back to ireland in 2007, my parents are irish!, i wont have a problem either as if you have children they are all irish citizens by birth, as both my parents are irish.

  2. Since you are a british citizen and she is your wife there should be no problem.  Especially British to Ireland/.  You can confirm this by going to the Irish Embassy in the UK.  or look up the Irish Embassy on the web.
