  8. Hi. First of all congratulations!!

I don't want to seem disrespectful to some of the other people who replied, but honestly, you asked for Irish names, and some answers are just not, e.g. Tegan, Brianna, Marilyn, Rosalyn, Elizabeth, Anne.  While some of these names, (Elizabeth/Anne) may be common in Ireland, they are not "Irish" names.

Now we've got that out of the way, you have two choices. Irish language names (i.e. Gaeilge) or English language Irish names.

Some English Language Irish Names would be

    Eileen

    Evelyn

    Maura

    Maureen

    Molly

    Noleen

    Noreen

    e.t.c.

Some of my favourite Irish language Gaeilge Irish names are

Aisling/Aislinn - pronounced Ashling - means a dream or vision.

    Aoibhe/Eabha - pronounced Ava.

Aoibheann- pronounced A-veen. This is quite popular in Ireland.

Aoife > pronounced E-fa, very popular in Ireland, seen as a varient to Aoibhe, translation Eve or Eva.

Blathnaid > Pronounced Blaw-nid, means little flower.

    Blinne> Pronounced Blin-ya.

Brenna > Means little drop of water.

Caofhlainn > This is a whopper. Pronounced Keelin.

    Cara> Kara. Means friendship.

Ciara > NOT Kiera or any varient. CIARA, pronunced Keer-a. Not Sierra, etc.

Clodagh > Clo-da, named for the river Clodagh,

    Deirdre > Prounounced Der-dree, Der-dra, Deer-dree, Deer-dra.

Eimear > Very common in Ireland. (prounouced emer)

    Erin > Means Ireland.

    Fiona> Means fair.

    Fionnuala> Fi-noo-la. Lengthened version of Nuala (noo-la)

Muirne > pronounced Myrna. (Like Myrna Loy, actress)

Niamh > very popular in ireland.  pronounced neeve ( to rhyme with steve).

Roisin > Mostly pronounced Row-sheen, but also Rosh-een, means Rose.

    Saoirse > Seer-sha. Means freedom.

Saorlaith > Seer-la. This is lovely, sounding beautiful and the irish Charlotte.

Sinead > Shin-ade, Irish for Jane.

    Siobhan> Shiv-awn, Irish for Joan

    Sorcha > Pronounced Sor-sha, Sor-ka, Sur-sha, or Sur-ka. Irish for Sarah.

Tara> The hill of Tara, very historical.

Treasa> Finally, my name. Tra-sa, irish for Teresa/Theresa.

I hope you find a name you love - once again, congratulations and good luck!

go to http://www.babynamesofireland.com/ or http://www.babynames.com and search for female irish names and have a look yourself.  One might pop out at you that you just love that nobody has suggested.

  21. Hi, I think it is lovely that you are putting so much thought into your babies name. Try doing a yahoo search, just type in Irish girls names, there are thousands and they also give their meanings.
