I was in scranton yesterday and we went to an authentic irish pub. I got sheperd pie which was great but It came with this side bread that was AMAZING! It had like a vanila sorta flavor, It was slightly tougher that sliced bread, but it came sliced. It was crumby but wasn't hard. Any Idea what this was? I wanna make some more.

  1. That would be Irish Soda Bread.

    IRISH SODA BREAD I

    3 Tbsp. softened butter

    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

    2 Tbsp. sugar

    1 tsp. baking powder

    1 tsp. baking soda

    1/2 tsp. salt

1/3 c. raisins or currents (optional, but preferred)

    3/4 c. (6 oz.) buttermilk

Preheat oven to 375°. Cut butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Sir in raisins and enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Knead on floured surface until smooth (1-2 minutes). Shape into a round loaf approximately 6 1/2 inches in diameter. Place on a greased baking sheet or in an oven-proof skillet. (Optional: Cut a big X about 1/4 of the way through the top of the loaf before baking. It spreads open and looks cool.) (Optional: Brush with butter during baking for a buttery taste.) Bake until golden brown, about 35 - 45 minutes.

  2. it was either soda bread or wheaten bread weaten bread is brown soda is white.

  3. Irish soda bread or wheaten bread. It's made with baking soda and not yeast and that's why it's slightly crumbly and more the texture of tea biscuits than what you're calling sliced bread.
