Irish coach Declan Kidney is pleased with Argentina result
Irish coach Declan Kidney has admitted that he was happy with Ireland’s performance after they defeated Argentina 29-9 at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday 28 November.
Ireland finished their Autumn Internationals with a good win and recorded two wins out of four in the series.
They lost to the Springboks 23-21 and struggled to a 20-10 win over Samoa, before they lost 38-18 to the All Blacks in what was Ireland’s best performance of the Test matches.
The Argentina result will give the team more confidence after their comprehensive defeat to the All Blacks. Kidney told reporters, "I'm delighted with the win. It's a good way to end the November series and puts us in good stead for the Six Nations. We were
good and positive in the first half and when we had the ball, we played well.”
However, the Irish coach was keen to stress that his team still had a lot to work on ahead of the Six Nations tournament next year. “We made a few turnovers in the second half which made it easier for them. Argentina got hold of the ball in the second half
and they did hang on to it. That's something we'll have to look at,” said Kidney.
The Irish coach admitted that his team would learn a lot from the November Internationals, but that they were a long way off challenging teams like the All Blacks. "We're far from the finished product. It was the first 10 minutes of the second half against
New Zealand last week that caught us. Teams can maybe get in a sense of not coming out for the second half so we have to look at that,” said Kidney.
Ireland will look to improve on their thrashing of Argentina and they will expect to challenge for the Six Nations next year, as they look to build for the World Cup.
