  1. In primary  we don't not grade them with A's or B's . We do get test , say on spelling . When you would get back your page it might say 9/10-good work . But they are only small class tests

    and they are not that big of a deal .

    As far as i remember [not that long ago , i am only 16 ] , the main bulk of the teaching was to maths and to english . We did some geography and science ; but that was not exactly what they wanted us to learn , we did mostly maths and english is what i am trying to say . Oh , btw we did do Irish language ; but i did not , i was exempted because i am dyslexic and need to work on my maths .

  2. Maths English History Geography

  3. no grades, just marks out of the total.

    You learn a bit of everything in primary school! English, Irish, geography, history, a little science (in 5th and 6th class), PE (physical ed.), basically all the normal subjects!

  4. in irish primary schools they dont actually get 'grades'.

    it depends of the teacher but most of them get a spelling test each week on a friday and are marked out of 10.  but this is not the standard!!! some teachers make the students learn poetry and are tested on it.  once again it depends on the teacher.

    at the end of each term (two terms in a year), the students recieve a report. on the report, there is a list of the different subjects. it also has things like 'care of books' and 'attendance'. the teacher marks the child on each subject with either; v. poor, poor, fair, good, v. good or excellent.

    there are no A's or B's or percentages. the teacher also meets with the parent at a parent-teacher meeting.

    The subjects that they do are;

    irish,

    maths,

    english,

    they also do;

    history,

    geography,

    a bit of science (mostly just experiments),

    art,

    and religion.

    ______________________________________...

    in secondry school they study;

    irish, english, maths, history, geography,

    they also have to choose a language (in some schools, one language eg. french is compulsery. (like my school!)

    other languages they study are; german, italian, greek or latin (but greek and latin are quite rare)

    in some school religion is compulsery but in others it is not.

    in some schools you have to do science, in others you choose it as one of your 'options'

    they also have to choose two or three 'optional subjects'

    business

    home economics (cooking and sewing)

    technical graphics

    wood work

    metal work

    music

    art

    (they choose about two of those ^^^)

    so all in all they do about 11 subjects!!

    ***after their first state exam they drop a few subjects

    hope all this helps :)

  5. hi you

    here in Ireland in primary school there are no grades but when the kids go from primary to secondary school they do what is call an entrant exam and going by the number of places in the school there is that number will be taken from the this exam so it is not unusual for kids to do more then one entrant exam just in case

  6. In my primary school we didn't really get grades. An overall assessment would be sent to our parents about our work in general. It would be classed as bad, poor, weak, average, good or excellent. The subjects would be broken down and you would get individual comments on (taking English as an example) grammar, pronunciation, spelling, reading, vocabulary etc. They would then do the same for class participation and social development.

    We were taught; English, Irish, Maths, History, Geography, PE, Drama, Singing, Music and then French and German were voluntary.

    In secondary school the grading is more rigid. 0-40% is a fail, 40-55 is a D (ranging from D1-D3 the equivalent of D-, D, D+) and it continues on up into the A's at 85%+. You can do higher level, ordinary level or foundation level.

    You usually take 11 examinable subjects at Junior Cert and these include Irish, English, Maths, French, German, Spanish, Geography, History, Science, Business, Art, Music, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Graphics, Religion etc.

    In Leaving Cert you will take 7 subjects the only difference is that they are more branched out (Science is split into Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Business is split into Economics, Accounting and Business Studies etc).

  7. what do you mean by grades?

    In primary you learn English, Irish, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Art and PE (physical Education).

    In secondary school you learn all these plus the following; CSPE FRench and German.

    Hope this helps
