so me and the man want to go to ireland this summer, i hear the south is better for countryside, i would dearly love to swim in lakes, see some stone circles and ancient sites as well as the coast and maybe some quaint little towns....can anyone suggest anywhere we would like? i notice ryanair are doing some cheap flights but is the accomodation going to be really expensive? we want to go for a week or two.

  1. hi you

i live in cork city and the south and south west are nice places to come and visit but i must accommodation is costly OK there is some places that do cheap accommodation The best thing i can say is check the Irish tourest broad web site discoverireland.ie before you make any plans to com it will give you some idea

  2. Hi there. I live in SW Ireland and it is lovely. There is a new hostel called Shiplake in Dunmanway and a bunch along the coast (none in CLonakilty though). You can get private rooms or a horse drawn caravan (minus the horse) in Shiplake. I've not seen in many many many many years ones with horses on the road so you'll have to look into that. lots of camp frounds as well. check out discoverireland.com

  3. athlone

    nice lake

    and

    all-round nice

you'll have to see for yourself

    :D

  4. Come to The Square in Tallaght. There's plenty of stone circles and ancient sites to see there.

  5. Im from Wicklow (which is just south of Dublin (40 mins from the centre by DART (train))

its really nice there also, and i recommend it.

You would fly to Dublin Airport.

To visit, there is the sugarloaf (wicklow mountains). Theres two actually - the great sugarloaf and the mini sugarloaf

However, theres not much to do there unless you like hiking!

Also, in Wicklow, you could visit Powerscourt Gardens or Powerscourt Waterfall. These are in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow and VERY worth a visit on a nice day

Also, in Enniskerry (i dont know your budget ;() but the Ritz-Carlton hotel is newly opened and its incredible.

Glendalough....is a national Park is Wicklow - its huge and incredibly beautiful....theres a round tower, ancient graveyard, stone circle lots of lakes lol

There is a hotel up in Glendalough....but if you really want to save money, you could always stay in a hostel

    However!!!

If you really want to experience "old" ireland, i think you should go to the West (fly to Shannon Airport)

    ....County Clare

i have family who live in a town there called Ballyvaughan....and its absolutely beautiful

There, i think your best bet is to stay in a thatched cottage and visit the little pubs and restaraunts by the sea - theres often live music.

Theres also lots of cool scenic things there too.

The burren (take a look at the Dolmens, theyre incredible!), the Ailwee caves, The cliffs of Moher.

Theres also a "birds of Prey" sanctuary near the Burren - worth a visit.

In Lisdoonvarna (Clare) i think, theres a nice aquarium and if you want to do some shopping you can go to Ennis.

The people are SO friendly there and so proud of the County- the accents are crazy too lol.

i defo think you should go for a thatched cottage in Clare.....theyre self-catering....and much more memorable than a B&B or hotel!

    heres a link for accomodation

If you want a really cheap holiday, Ireland certainly isnt your ideal destination.....but it is well worth it

On the other hand, in comparison to most places in Ireland (such as Dublin), the west is a lot cheaper.

(also, try not to call people "hippies"....we dont like that lol)

Have a great holiday!!!!i hope this helped a bit ;)

  6. Why not fly to Derry with Ryanair and then go to Gweedore or Dunfanaghy in Donegal. You'll hear Irish being spoken as a first language. You can hire a caravan in various places.Go horse riding or out on a boat to fish or take a trip out to Tory Island and meet the islanders new friend,a dolphin that folk go out swimming with.Trad music in the pubs and great craic.

  7. Why not consider hiring a horse and 'caravan to travell round south, yourselves, ive seen these holidays advertised on tv they look right up your street!
