Irish immigration issues?

My husband is from Ireland and lives in the U.S. now. His mother lives in Ireland part of the time and part of the time in the U.S. and she is always ranting about how the polish and other immigrants that the Irish gov't are letting into Ireland are ruining the country. Are they? With Ireland being part of the E.U. now is Ireland just letting in more immigrants than they can handle or need ? If you live in Ireland what is your stance on your current immigration issue and / or problem?

  1. its true....soo many immigrants are entering that wonderful country and making it less and less Irish unfortuantely.

Look at Dublin....its not Irish...more like NYC

  2. People with out much of an education are usually the ones that have a problem. This is due to the fact that many of the people coming in while highly skilled do not have the English skills initially to do jobs more fitting to their profession so end up taking jobs that usually the uneducated would have.

Also people who are on social welfare; they tend to take issues with refugees coming in & getting benefits (very unfair as these Irish people have no good reason not to work other than lazy & these poor refugee are often from war torn countries & afraid for their lives in their homelands).

Sorry to have to say it but it usually it is only the ignorant that have an issue with immigrants. They are completely unaware of the economic needs of the country & how your economic growth (think Celtic tiger) could not exist with out the labor force that these immigrants are. We could not produce people enough fast enough to fill the jobs. Immigrants are absolutely necessary to our growth. The problem is with the ignorant people in Ireland that I am glad to stay do not represent Irish people as a whole. In general we tend to be quite a tolerant nation (I mean look at how many of us have emigrated over the years!!!)
