  1. I was going to say a website but the one above beat me to it!!I just had to comment on "nuffys" answer...It's so annoying when someone does a huge long answer containing absolutly NOTHING relevant to the question.and besides we can all copy and paste....idiot!!

  2. Site 1: Immigrant Council of Ireland has many downloadable publications:

    • Family Matters

    • Directory of Migrant Organisations in Ireland

    • Comments on proposed Immigration and Residency Bill

    • Handbook on rights and entitlements in Ireland

    • Labour migration into Ireland

    • Voices of Immigrants

    • Glossary of Migration Terms

    • Information and Statistics on Immigration

    • Factsheets on Immigrants’ Rights

Site 2: Emigrant Advice provides its service to intending, existing and returning Irish emigrants and immigrants.  Among others, the  following documents can be downloaded from their site:

Living in Ireland  - A guide for new residents

Procedure for Long Term Residency Applications

    Rights Entitlements of Migrants

Site 3: Government sites and publications regarding immigration

  3. the Irish have always made up their own rules

  4. sorry to rant but nuffy?? what are you on ?

"Nearly every one of the 5 million people who live in Ireland have relations in the New World"???

You can't just make up a value like that- that's as good as saying nearly all of the people in the USA don't own a passport - I know the percentage is high but that doesn't make it acceptable to lump everyone together in the same category!

I am from Ireland and I have NO relations in America. Add my sisters also that makes three of us, my parents hmm 5...

And "in the 1800s one million Irish people immigrated to the USA- half were Catholic"? I'd like to know your source. I seriously doubt there were half a million non-Catholic people living in Ireland then certainly not half a million who had to leave.  The vast majority of non-catholics were Anglicans and were wealthy planters supported by the government in London given free land and hence had a healthly income.

    Rant over

you can also get info on immigrating to Ireland at :
