There are a few ways of obtaining Irish nationality.

1. Birth or descent

2. Irish citizenship through marriage

3. Naturalisation

For obtatining citizenship through naturalisation you have to prove you have lived in Ireland for at least 5 years out of the last 9 years. The Garda Síochána (Ireland's national police) will be asked to provide a report about your background.
