Irish star Stephen Ferris aiming high for Rugby World Cup 2011-Rugby News
Stephen Ferris, who was included in the Irish Rugby World Cup squad, is aiming high for his side during the global show starting next month in New Zealand. Ferris was included in Ireland’s final mix for the RWC despite remaining out of action for more than
six months. Talking to the journalists on August 25 Ferris said that he is motivated to boost his side during the forthcoming Webb Ellis Trophy contest. Ferris is expected to participate in their last warm-up match against England, to be played on 27 August.
The blindside flanker played his last match with Ireland on January 22 and left the field limping due to an injury to his knee. However Irish head coach, Declan Kidney, found him good enough to make the final crew.
It will be the second time Ferris will be representing his national side in RWC as he was also the part of the Ireland squad during the global show of 2007. The flanker has got large experience of International rugby as he has been around his national side
since 2006. However, unfortunate injuries have disrupted him on many occasions in his five-year long career with Ireland. So far, he has won 25 test caps for his country and has earned 10 points despite playing at a difficult position.
Talking to the reporters about his surprise inclusion in the Irish squad, Ferris said he feels great at the moment. He added that, “I felt great, felt fine. I probably would have liked to have taken a little bit more contact. But I felt grand. The knee came
through 100% so now I’m just concentrating on this weekend. I felt confident on Saturday and thankfully I’ve been given the opportunity to go on my second World Cup.”
Talking about his past, Ferris said that, “But all those dark days are put behind me now. You’ve just got to look to the future; that’s what I tend to do with every injury I’ve got. Thankfully I’m on the right road now.”
Ireland will face England on August 27, whom they deprived from a Six Nations grand slam with a stunning defeat.
