Irish sweaters - where in ireland could i get one?

I have heard that irish sweaters are pretty famous and a lot of people who go to ireland get one. Where could i get an irish sweater? is there one big sweater store or something or a bunch of little sweater stands? are there any particular places that sell them? how much do they usually cost?

I don't think they would cost too much since they are everywhere in tourists shops. I personally like them and don't understand why the Irish people don't. I guess because it's really just a tourist thing. I am a quarter Irish and love everything about Ireland. I hope I can visit someday. It's so beautiful.

to be honest no one in Ireland really wheres them. It seems to be more the people outside Ireland that where them. You could get them in most tourist shops for about 30 Euro. or try going to a Cotton mill there's a really good one in Lara (Ireland close to wicklow) You can get a really good quality one for about 97 Euro. They usually sell them in America for 200 dollars.

i knitted one for a American lady once and she found fault fault with every stitch and so  i sold it for 180 euro for it was the proper wool and hand knitted  told yerone to take a hike the s****. xxxxx

The sweater you're referring to is an Aran Jumper.  They jumper hails from the Aran Islands where it was traditionally knit by the wives fishermen.  The women tended to use untreated wool so as to retain the lanolin hence providing a snug waterproof jumper for hubby in natural cream colour.  The distinctive cable patterns used were generally interpretations of Irish religious symbols to ensure hubby returned safe with a good catch.

As to where you buy them, no Irish person would be seen dead in an Aran jumper unless fishing so generally you're best heading for a tourist shop in any town.  They cost about €200+ depending on quality.
