  1. If you're at all outgoing, you'll get to reinvent yourself! Seriously, it'll be great fun. You'll make some great friends while you're there, I went to Cape Clear on my own and it was only when I got on the bus I realised that I knew one girl from a neighbouring town, so she introduced me to all her friends, and they were great! I had such a marvellous 3 weeks, much better than I thought I would.

The second time I went to Ceann Tra in Kerry and that was okay, I met one girl on the bus with whom I got on so well that everyone thought we had known each other for years. Other than that, I didn't know anybody. It was good, we cycled everywhere - this was before everyone had cars so it was much safer to cycle on the roads than it is now. The day we went home I was just bawling ....

Looking back now, I think Cape Clear was better.

  2. DONT forget important stuff....you know the weather here...and youre outside A LOT....so bring a jacket and sun cream lol

Bring c**p clothes....but dont forget nice clothes too (theres usually discos!)

but dont bring too much stuff! youll just regret it later!

It seems to be the tradition in most gaeltachts to serve limp, soggy fish finger-type-things on a Friday..so bring sweets!

BUT be nice to you Bean An Ti anyway.....hopefully youll get a cool one

Ceilis are cool!! Every night you get to dance around like a mad thing but it doesn't matter, cause everyone else is too.

bring some weird clothes and stuff for them...they have competitions sometimes lol

Be ready for early mornings. but at least every other person in your house has to do the same.

You can put up with the cockroaches and icky looking breakfast cereals together HAHA

Irish is a LOT easier when you get back in September. Not that that really matters I suppose. Oh well lol

Just try not to use much english (when adults are around).....it gets fun speaking irish anyway....

be prepared to use a LOT of hand gestures for the words you dont know!!!!

That's pretty much everything you need to know (i think!)

Have a deadly time.....youll make amazing friends

  3. You'll be fine. I never went to Gaeltacht because I hated Irish but everybody makes friends there - lots of people go alone! You'll have a lot of fun.
