Iron in my multivitamin? ?

I am a male i run about 5 miles a day 6 days a week im also trying to become a vegan my question is i take a multivitamin daily with iron is this safe? I figure im sweating and i am very active i probably need it anyway? the vitamin is a form a vegan company

  1. This is really a question for your doctor.  But from my limited expertise, I would wager that men don't need to supplement with iron as much as women do because, well, women bleed and men don't.  Unless you're bleeding a lot (in which case you have other problems), you probably don't need the extra iron.

    Excess iron can be toxic, a condition called hemochromatosis.  And what's really scary is the symptoms of hemochromatosis and anemia are similar.

    Go to www.vrg.org for a list of iron-rich foods.  And remember to eat them with foods rich in vitamin C.


  2. The multivitamin daily with iron is a good insurance policy, but unless your the tin man you don't have to worry about sweating out iron.  

  3. since vitamins have animal product in them... you can't take that.

    why do you need supplements?
