Ironing my dress?

Question

I am having a destination wedding in Clearwater, FL. My dress's skirt is entirely tulle and will be very wrinkled when we arrive from being in the garment bag on the airplane. My plan was to take it directly to a local dry cleaner that does wedding dresses to have it pressed, they will have 24 hours to do it. My other option is to ship the dress there ahead of time and have them do it so I can pick it up when I arrive.

The good thing about shipping it ahead of time is that there won't be a time crunch, the bad thing is that I won't be able to see the place I'm shipping it to and won't know if it's reputable or icky.

The good thing about doing it when I get there is a I can pick a nice loooking place and speak to them, in person, about what I need, but they will only have 24 hours to do it.

They only have to press it, not fully clean it.

Which do you think is better?

I think sending it ahead of time would be better ONLY if you can look at users reviews from this place.  If not just take it in, they shoul be able to press it in that time.

Steam it, don't iron it.  Invest in a little hand-held steamer (they have them at Target and places like that) and then hang up the dress in the bathroom when you get there and go over it with the steamer thing.  It will take all the wrinkles out but you won't run the risk of ruining the delicate fabric, as you would with an iron.  If you don't trust yourself to steam it, have one of your relatives who is handy with that sort of thing do it for you, but steaming is the best way to go, for sure.

If you don't know anyone there that can recommend a good cleaners then I would wait, It only needs to be steamed and shouldn't take long at all, however they might want to charge for a rush job. I would ask the people at the hotel where you are staying for their recomendation.

Invest on a garmet steamer.

You can DIY and not have to worry about shipping your dress or dealing with unknown dry cleaners.

A garment steamer can cost $59+ and they have travel size ones too.

EDIT: Try a professional garment steamer. Certain brands work better than others. Tulle might be complicated since it's mostly nylon. Hmm.

I'd say that the local dry cleaner is a better option if you know that they can do wedding gowns. Some places know how, some don't. Even if it's just pressing there could be problems, and you'd have to have a melted or dissolved skirt. Make sure you find a place before you go, I would recommend online if your person at the other end isn't being helpful.

To where would you be shipping it? Just to a dry cleaner? You want to know a reputable dry cleaner before you go either way, so shipping it there in advance doesn't really require more foreknowledge. Check that the place you're planning on using  will accept the dress in advance, that might end up making your choice for you.

steam it, no not iron!

run the shower hot for a while and have the dress hang in the bathroom witht he door closed.  then run your clean hands over the dress to flatten the wrikles.

Call ahead to the hotel you are staying at and ask if they have that service available. If not ask them for a reputable place and then call ahead to make sure they will have enough time to do it.

i would say all local cleaners down there and let them know you are flying in and need your dress steamed in 24 hours. some places might send that kind of stuff out and not do it on site so its best to make they can do it in 24 hours before you make any decisions.also most cleaners tell you to pick up your stuff in a few days so you might need to tell them its a time crunch and make some sort of reservation ahead of time so they are aware as to whats going on.then if they can do it in 24 hours i would take the dress with you especially since the wedding planner doesnt seem to be too reliable...i wouldnt want that dress out of my site for too long lol
