Right, I have the most irregular periods ever and im not on a pill. Some months I may have 1, 2 or 3 periods, although very light and only for about 4 days, then i will go without one for upto 3 months.... sometimes have a huge one, and it goes like that really. Now here is my question, when do I get pregnant? Hopefully anytime inbetween? whilst on? I just dont know. And if I did how could i tell the doctor the first date of my last period? They are that irregular that i dont know myself. I have been to the doctors about this and they just tell me they cant do anything until I have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years, which i found quite annoying because at the time i wasnt, I just wanted to know what was wrong with me. Im just petrefied in case this means i cant have children. Does anyone have any advise please? Thanks in advance :) Im 24 and I strated my periods when I was about 16, they were normal to begin with but i went on the pill injection until i was 18 and they have never been the same.since. Thanks again

  1. Irregular periods mean nothing. I was just like you and my Hubby only had to walk past the bedroom window while I was in bed for me to fall pregnant.

Forget about timing for the moment and enjoy yourself for a while, allow it to happen in it's own time before getting technical with cycles.

The amount of people I know who are getting stressed about getting pregnant aren't and the ones that aren't TRYING to get pregnant are.

Stressing yourself is only going stress your body, relax and enjoy this time.

I found this chart for another girl with a question but it will give you a guide.

Believe itor not a lot of women aren't 28 dayers but one tip I can give you on ovulation is that you maybe able to feel it, I can. It is almost in the mid cycle that I used to feel like I had a period cramp coming but I knew I'd had my period not long before. Not all woment feel the ovulation but I thought I'd mention it because I was irregular like you before I had a voluntary hysterectomy.

Don't be concerned if you can't feel the ovulation because that is more the norm. Just relax you are still young.

    EDIT

I only say relax and try to just enjoy this time rather than getting too stressed too early because the people I know who are getting stressed because they want a baby so bad aren't falling pregnant because they are so stressed over working out times to have s*x etc to get pregnant.....

And the ones that are just going "whenever" are falling pregnant. I have several friends who have been told they'll never be able to have children.... Once they left go and think they can't get pregnant they end up with a miricle baby, I know several people this has happened to.

That is why I say relax and enjoy this time instead of working out cycles and when you are ovulating etc because you can get so stressed by it that the stress can throw your body out of wack too. Even people with a regular cycle can't always tell the best time. Enjoy your Hubby / Partner and your intamant times together for a while before thinking you may not be able to have any children. Then after a time, like 12 months if nothing happens see another doctor.

I do know what it is to want a baby so despratley and not be able to because my first Husband was abusive and didn't want children so I couldn't risk getting pregnant. It wasn't for physical reasons but I was so desperate.

  2. I know how you feel, i stared my periods when i was 8, and i suffered with irregular periods, from day one, i missed 6 months then had a big month long period, etc. They only way i sorted it out was by going on the pill which i started when i was 16, i came of the pill because me and my husband were trying for a baby, but then my period wouldn't arrive and it reined my hopes of have a baby, so back on it i went, i came of the pill 9th of july of this year, i haven't seen a period so i have to have a blood test. There is nothing wrong with you it is how some women's body's work. The best thing for you is keep a book or diary and write down the first day of your period then count 21 days from that day and have a blood test done, this blood test is to check if your hormones rise like they should during ovulation. If it comes back that it is high that is the time for you should start trying it last 2 to 4 days long.

  3. You could try taking Agnus Castus (Vitex or Chaste tree berry).

This is the herb of choice for helping to restore hormone imbalance and increasing fertility. In one study 48 women diagnosed with infertility took agnus castus daily for three months, 7 of them became pregnant during that time and 25 of them regained normal progesterone levels.

Agnus castus is particularly helpful for those women who have a luteal phase defect (shortened second half to the cycle) or those with high prolactin levels, because it stimulates the proper functioning of the pituitary gland which controls the hormones.

Agnus castus works to restore hormonal balance and can be used where there are hormone deficits as well as excesses it:

    -Regulates periods

    -Restarts periods which have stopped

    -Helps with heavy bleeding

-Increases the ratio of progesterone to oestrogen by balancing excess oestrogen.

It has made me very regular and helped my friend concieve too.

    Good luck x*x

  4. You must be sick of hearing this "try to relax" but hopefully I can add something that actually might help you relax. Sperm lives up to 5 days, egg lives 1- 2- 3 max, so have s*x 2 - 3 times per week and you have it covered! Not matter if you don't know when you are ovulating. But this simple maths should help take the stress away and just have fun trying. My GYN gave me this info and to look at it logically, it is correct. Or, try another doc to do further tests if you are really worried.

    Best of luck

  5. If your doctor is telling you that they won't do blood tests until after 3 years of trying, I would find a new doctor. Most docs will test you at the one year point for the age you're at. If you start charting your cycles for a few months and still haven't conceived then they may test your blood levels sooner. That's what happened for me. I was diligent with getting acupuncture as soon as I ended the pill, and sharting my cycles. I stuck it out for about 8 months and went to my doc with all the documentation of my cycles and he agreed to begin bloodwork. It still took me another 10 months of trying before I conceived my daughter and what finally helped me was maya abdominal massage. It helped get my body working correctly so I could conceive much easier. I suggest checking it out and giving it a try. It will also help with regulating your periods.
