Iryna Bremond demolishes Mariya Koryttseva in 1st round – WANLIMA Women’s Open 2011
French tennis pro Iryna Bremond crushed Mariya Koryttseva of Ukraine 6-1, 6-3 on Tuesday to book her place in the second round of 2011 WANLIMA International Women’s Open here in Guangzhou, China.
Unseeded at the Women’s Tennis Association tournament, Bremond made a great start to the match as she broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Not allowing her opponent any room to play her shots, she raced to 3-1 lead with in first 15 minutes of the match.
Holding on to her service games, the French woman had no trouble holding on to her service games, thanks to her powerful and on-target serves. She broke the serve twice more to bag the opening set, dropping only a game.
Bremond dashed her wonderful backhand and forehand winners all over the court and she made the challenger run for her money with her aggressive intent. Forcing errors from her opponent, she looked in complete control of the match, entering the second set.
Playing her natural game freely in the following set as well, she created all sorts of problems for her opponent from the baseline. Although she was broken twice early in the second set, she concentrated on her own game play. Breaking back twice, she earned a vital 5-3 lead serving for the set. Firing a blazing ace, she set up two match points for her and then converted the first one to close out the contest that lasted for one hour and 29 minutes.
Although Bremond won the match quite comprehensively, she needs to improve certain areas of her games play, the most important being her serve. World number 112 produced a whopping ten double faults in the match. If she keeps producing these unforced errors, it will be very difficult for her to achieve similar results against other top seeded players at the WTA tournament.
Koryttseva managed to convert only two out of ten break points in the match, which of course led to her down fall.
