wavelength(a) x frequency(f) = speed of light(V) and V = 300000 km/s

is 1 khz = 1 km/s or 1 km square per sec?????

  1. In other words, we say that something has a frequency of 400 Hz (for example) when it happens 400 times in a second. That means that it takes one four-hundredth of a second (2.5 ms) for any particular cycle. We call this time the "period," especially if it's a periodic phenomenon.

    So the general rule is:

    f = 1/T, where T is the period

    And we measure f in "cycles per second," with one cycle per second being 1 Hz. 1 kHz = 1000 Hz = 1000 cycles per second.

    Now, light also has a "wavelength," meaning that one cycle of light travels a certain predetermined distance depending on its color. For example, the visible light spectrum has a wavelength of 400 nm to 700 nm or so -- orange is a good example, having a wavelength around 600 nm.

    But if all light travels at the same speed (3 * 10^8 m/s), and this wave travels 600 nm per cycle, how long does it take for light to travel 600 nm? What's the period and frequency?

    T = (distance)/(speed) = (6 * 10^-7 m) / (3 * 10^8 m/s) = 2 * 10^-15 s.

    f = 1/T = (1/2) * 10^15 = 5 * 10^14 Hz. = 500 terahertz.

    Light goes so fast, and visible light is so small, that in one second, orange light will wiggle back-and-forth for 500 trillion cycles -- that's five hundred million million! That's a lot of waviness!

  2. non of the above

    I kHz = 1000 Hz  is not 1 km/s and is not 1 km²/sec

    true:

    wavelength in meters x freq in Hz (sec^-1) = speed of light in m/s

    note that the meters and the sec^-1 combine to make m/s

    ALWAYS CHECK THE UNITS, it prevents silly mistakes. The units have to balance on both sides of an equation.

    .

  3. no.

    KHz is s exponent minus 1 or 1/s

  4. Hertz have units of inverse seconds (1/sec), so when you multiply km x 1/sec you get km/sec which is a velocity.
